The plumage is dominated by a deep, highly saturated sapphire-blue that covers the entire upper body, head, and throat, providing a striking presence against the muted green background. The blue on his face is so deep it appears almost black, framing a large, dark eye. A subtle, lighter patch of grayish-blue is visible on the belly, and the bill is short and black, adapted for hawking insects in flight. His slightly fluffed-up posture and alert demeanor suggest a moment of rest between foraging bouts within the dense broadleaf forests of its Asian habitat.
