Turn Chrome New Tab into a visual bookmark workspace with Pages, Boards, search, Quick Save, and local-first storage. Asterfold turns Chrome New Tab into a visual bookmark workspace built around the links you use every day. Organize links into Pages for different contexts and Boards for related resources. Search your local workspace, save the current page with Quick Save, and open what you need directly from a new tab. WHAT YOU CAN DO • Organize links with Pages and visual Boards • Reorder Boards and saved links with drag and drop • Search by title or URL with Ctrl/Cmd + K • Save the active page from the extension popup, keyboard shortcut, or context menu • Import Chrome bookmarks only when you choose to grant the optional permission • Import HTML bookmark files or an Asterfold backup • Export local backups and supported bookmark formats • Restore deleted Pages, Boards, and links from Trash • Choose current-tab, new-tab, or new-window opening behavior • Use light, dark, or system appearance • Customize backgrounds, wallpapers, layout, transparency, blur, dimming, and saturation • Use Privacy Mode to hide saved titles and URLs in the interface while it is active • Choose from 12 interface languages LOCAL-FIRST BY DESIGN Asterfold stores its primary workspace data locally in your Chrome profile through IndexedDB. No Asterfold account is required. The current build has no application backend, analytics, advertising, telemetry, host permissions, or content scripts. Chrome bookmark access is optional and requested only when you choose Import Chrome bookmarks. Privacy Mode is visual protection for the interface; it is not database encryption. PERMISSIONS activeTab — reads the current page title and URL only after you invoke Quick Save or another supported save action. favicon — displays Chrome-provided favicons for saved URLs. alarms — schedules local Trash cleanup based on your selected retention period. contextMenus — adds Save page, Save link, and Open Asterfold commands. storage — stores the temporary cross-context Privacy Mode state in Chrome session storage. Optional bookmarks — reads your Chrome bookmark tree locally only after you choose to import it. Source, documentation, privacy policy, and support are available from the Asterfold GitHub repository.
