While my primary research focuses on larger marine life, I am always captivated by the smaller, yet equally important, residents of a coral reef. This fish's vibrant red coloration provides excellent camouflage against the colorful backdrop of the reef, helping it to hide from predators. Cardinalfish are known to be nocturnal, spending the day hiding in crevices and caves before emerging at night to feed on small crustaceans and zooplankton. Their large eyes are a key adaptation for this nocturnal lifestyle, allowing them to see clearly in the dim light of the deep reef.
