Adds a sidebar to Airbnb listings showing nearby cafes, transit, groceries and parks, from free public map data. No tracking. See what's around an Airbnb listing before you book. Neighborhood Explorer for Airbnb adds a sidebar to Airbnb listing pages that shows what is nearby, with real walking distances and times, so you can judge a neighborhood without leaving the page or copying the address into a map. WHAT YOU GET • Nine categories: cafés, restaurants, grocery stores, coworking spaces, pharmacies, hospitals, parks, public transport and ATMs • Walking distance and walking time to each place, based on pedestrian routing • A "Walking route" link that opens Google Maps with the route from the listing to the place, plus an OpenStreetMap link • Sort by nearest, alphabetical or most walkable • Collapse or expand each category (collapsed by default, so nothing loads until you open it) • Choose which categories to show • Light, dark or match-system theme, and a custom background color • Works across Airbnb's country sites (airbnb.com, airbnb.co.uk, airbnb.de, airbnb.co.in and many more) PRIVATE BY DESIGN • No account, no backend server, no analytics, no tracking • The only data sent anywhere is the approximate coordinates of the listing you are viewing, sent to free public OpenStreetMap-based services (Overpass for nearby places, a FOSSGIS-hosted OSRM server for walking routes) • Your name, your Airbnb account and your browsing history are never collected or sent • Settings and a 24-hour results cache stay in your browser and can be cleared from the Settings page HOW IT WORKS The extension reads the listing's approximate location from the page you are already viewing, looks up nearby places in OpenStreetMap data, calculates walking routes, and shows the results in a sidebar. It only runs on listing pages. GOOD TO KNOW • Airbnb shows an approximate location until you book, so distances are measured from that approximate point and can be off by a few hundred metres • Place data comes from OpenStreetMap. Coverage and completeness vary by region, and some places may be unnamed or missing • The map services are free community servers, so results can occasionally be slow or unavailable Independent project.
