My years of studying marine life have made me appreciate the unique adaptations of this fascinating animal. Unlike most fish, the seahorse swims upright, using a small dorsal fin that flutters with incredible speed to propel itself through the water. Its prehensile tail is another remarkable feature, which it curls around corals and sea grasses to anchor itself in currents. Seahorses are also known for their intricate camouflage, with skin patterns and colors that allow them to blend into their surroundings to hide from predators. They are ambush predators, using their long, tubular snout to suck in tiny crustaceans and plankton. Their presence is a good indicator of a healthy, biodiverse reef or sea grass habitat.
