Grab a region and paste it straight into an AI chat. Snaps to element edges and keeps rounded corners. SmartShot was built for showing your screen to an AI. The image is copied the moment you confirm the selection, so you can paste it straight into Claude, ChatGPT, or Gemini — and into Slack or Notion the same way — without hunting for a "copy" button. ■ Built for showing an AI what you mean When you ask an AI about something on screen, showing it is often faster than describing it. But capturing, choosing where to save, finding the file and attaching it is a round trip you make every single time — and it gets in the way most when you actually have a question. SmartShot puts the image on your clipboard the moment you capture, so pasting into the chat box is all that is left. Cutting out only what matters helps too. Send the whole screen and it is harder to tell what you are asking about. Send just the box with the error, or just the table, and both the question and the answer get shorter. ■ Key features - Start with a single shortcut (Alt+Shift+S). You can change it at chrome://extensions/shortcuts - Hover over an element and the region is detected for you - Or drag to select an area by hand - Drag the edges to fine-tune. The frame snaps to the boundaries of elements on the page - Choose what happens after capture: copy only, copy and save, or save only. With "copy only" no download dialog appears - The size is shown in real pixels (Retina displays supported) - Capture without touching the mouse: press Return to confirm the selection, then Return again to copy (clicking does the same) - Or skip selecting altogether and grab the whole visible screen (press A after starting, or use the button in the popup) - A short sound tells you when the copy or save is done (you can turn it off) ■ What you see is what you get, at full resolution On Retina displays the area inside your selection is shown and saved at its real resolution. Small text stays crisp, so a screenshot full of fine print is still readable when you paste it. ■ Rounded corners stay rounded Most screenshot tools capture the pixels on screen, so a rounded thumbnail or card comes out with square corners. SmartShot reads the page's CSS, so it cuts along the actual rounded corners and the four corners of the saved PNG are transparent. If you stretch a selection from a square element onto a rounded one, only the corners that line up follow the curve. ■ Good for - Showing an AI an error or a screen you are stuck on, and asking what to do - Handing an AI the screen you want it to work on, along with your instructions - Dropping images into notes and documents as you work - Cutting out screens element by element for manuals and how-to docs ■ Privacy This extension does not collect or transmit any of your data. Captured images stay on your computer and in your clipboard. Pasting into an AI is something you do yourself. There is no AI inside SmartShot, and it never sends your images to an AI or to any server. Capturing and copying is where its job ends. ■ Please note Chrome only allows extensions to capture the visible area of the current tab, so the whole desktop and other applications are out of scope. It also cannot run on the new tab page, chrome:// pages, or the Web Store.
