Highlight text on any page or PDF and save it with a note and its link into one searchable notebook. Highlight anything you read, add a note, and find it again later. Select text on any web page, pick a colour, and it is saved with the page title, the link and the date. Add a note if you want to remember why it mattered. Come back to the page a month later and your highlights are still there, in place. PDFs work too. Chrome's own PDF viewer cannot be read by an extension, so this one includes its own reader. Open a PDF, then either click the extension icon in the toolbar, or right-click the page and choose "Open this PDF in Highlighter". You can also open a PDF stored on your computer with the Open a file button inside the reader, which needs no extra permission. Highlights in a PDF stay attached to the file itself rather than to its address, so you can highlight a document online, download it, open your copy weeks later, and the highlights are still there. Everything lands in one notebook. Search the highlighted words and your notes, filter by site, colour or date, and click through to jump straight back to the sentence on the original page. It works the moment you install it • Everything is stored on your own computer, in Chrome's local storage • No tracking, no analytics, no advertising • The extension sends nothing anywhere. The only network request it ever makes is downloading a PDF you asked it to open • Export everything at any time, or remove the extension to erase it all • It asks for no access to any website when you install it. Highlighting works straight away through the toolbar button, the keyboard shortcut or the right-click menu. If you want highlights to reappear by themselves on pages you revisit, one button in the notebook turns that on, and the same button turns it off again WHAT IT CANNOT DO Being straight about the limits. Scanned PDFs with no selectable text cannot be highlighted, because there is no text to select. Apps that draw text on a canvas, such as Google Docs in edit mode or Figma, cannot be highlighted either. If a page is rewritten after you saved a highlight, the highlight may no longer find its place, and it stays in your notebook so you do not lose the words.
