Stereo VU meter with hot-peak alerts, levels-over-time graph, and frame-accurate timecode overlay - built for video QC. Volume Meter & Timecode — Audio QC + Frame-Accurate Timecode for Any Tab A stereo (L/R) audio VU meter with hot-peak alerts, plus a frame-accurate H:M:S:F timecode readout with play/step controls — overlaid directly on any tab playing video. Built for video QC: catch audio that's running too hot, and pinpoint an exact frame, in one tool. New in this version • Levels-over-time graph — click GRAPH to open a second panel with a gridlined chart of both channels: a solid line for instantaneous peak, a dotted line for RMS/average, and a dashed line for session peak. The x-axis is the video's own timecode, so it stays in sync, freezes while paused, and follows along if you seek or scrub. Shows a rolling 60-second window that follows the live edge automatically — click and drag to scrub back through earlier history. Hover anywhere on the chart to see the exact timecode and L/R level at that point, so if something spikes, you know exactly where it happened. The graph panel is draggable and resizable independently of the main meter, and both remember their position between sessions. • Freeze on pause — when the tracked video is paused, the live bars and numbers now freeze at their last real reading instead of dropping to silence, so you can check exactly what the level was at the moment you paused. Why this one's different There are other tab-audio VU/loudness meters for Chrome, some quite sophisticated on the audio side. What's missing from all of them is timecode — none pair audio metering with a frame-accurate readout of where you actually are in the video. This does both, because for video QC, you usually need both at once. Audio • Segmented dB bars for left and right channels, -28 to +6 dB • A decaying peak-hold marker that catches transients and falls back over time • A PEAK reading under each bar that turns red once it crosses your "hot" threshold (default -2 dB) — a fast pass/fail check • RESET clears the peak hold before the next clip Timecode • Live H:M:S:F readout, hooked directly into the page's own video element via requestVideoFrameCallback — genuinely frame-accurate, not estimated • Frame rate is measured empirically by sampling real playback, not assumed • Play/pause and single-frame step controls that control the actual video on the page Both • Stays visible even when the video goes fullscreen • Drag the panel anywhere on screen; it remembers its position • Adjustable thresholds right from the settings gear in the header Privacy All analysis happens locally in your browser.
