Find and save video and audio from pages you have the right to download. Plays and saves HTML5 media, HLS and DASH. 4KTube Media Downloader finds the video and audio files a web page is using and saves them to your computer in one click. WHAT IT FINDS - HTML5 <video> and <audio> elements, including their alternate sources - Direct links to a video or audio file, such as an MP4 posted on a page - HLS streams (.m3u8), with a quality picker for the available renditions - MPEG-DASH streams (.mpd) ONE ENTRY PER VIDEO A page that offers the same clip at six resolutions gives you one row, not six. Pick the quality you want from a dropdown ? 360p, 720p, 1080p ? exactly the way you would expect. No scrolling through near-identical duplicates. HOW IT WORKS Open a page, click the 4KTube icon, and allow the extension on that site. Anything playable on the page appears with its resolution, length and file size. Choose a quality, press Download, and the file is saved through Chrome's normal download manager. Segmented streams are downloaded piece by piece in parallel and joined into a single file automatically, with live progress and a cancel button. SAVED AS SOMETHING THAT PLAYS Segmented streams arrive as thousands of transport-stream pieces, a container Chrome cannot open at all. 4KTube rewrites them into MP4 as it assembles the download ? losslessly, without re-encoding a single frame ? so the file you end up with plays in the browser, in your media player and on your phone. PREVIEW AND PLAY Press play on any result to watch it right inside the popup before committing to a download. Adaptive streams play there too, at the quality you picked from the dropdown rather than whatever the connection happens to allow. 4KTube also includes a full offline player for the files you have saved. Drag a file onto it, or open one from disk ? nothing is uploaded and no connection is needed. It has a playlist that remembers where you stopped, playback speed from 0.25x to 4x, A-B looping for repeating a section, subtitle loading (.vtt and .srt), frame-by-frame stepping, PNG frame capture, picture-in-picture and fullscreen, all driven by keyboard shortcuts. MY LIST Star anything to keep it for later. My List survives restarts and is reachable from both the popup and the player. PRIVACY BY DESIGN - Access is used only to find media. Chrome's own Site access control, on the extension's entry in chrome://extensions, restricts 4KTube to specific sites or to click-only access whenever you prefer; the options page reports which level is in force. - No analytics, no telemetry, no tracking, no accounts, no ads. - Nothing is ever sent to the developer or to any third party. Every operation runs locally in your browser. - The list of media found on a tab is held in memory and erased the moment the tab navigates away or closes. WHAT THIS EXTENSION WILL NOT DO It cannot capture DRM-protected video of any kind. Streams using Widevine, PlayReady or FairPlay are detected and refused. It will not operate on YouTube or YouTube Music. Their terms prohibit third-party downloading, so those sites are declined outright ? nothing there is scanned, listed or recorded, and the extension says so and explains why instead of quietly failing. Beyond that it contains no site-specific code for any service. Detection is generic ? it sees what a page actually loads, nothing more. This is a general-purpose tool for media you have the right to save: your own uploads, your organisation's video hosting, Creative Commons material, public domain archives, press kits, and course material you are licensed to keep offline. Many services prohibit downloading in their terms of service. Please check the terms of the site you are using, and only download content you own or have permission to save. Downloading copyrighted material without the rights holder's permission may be illegal where you live. OPEN AND REVIEWABLE There is no remote code. Nothing is fetched and executed at runtime, and there is no eval anywhere in the package. Every line of 4KTube's own code ships unminified and unbundled, exactly as it was written. It relies on three published open-source libraries for stream playback and container rewriting ? hls.js, dash.js and mux.js ? which are included as their official release builds, unmodified, each with its licence and a note recording the version and where it came from.
