A Chrome extension (Manifest V3) that appends the converted value beside prices it recognises on any page, converts a highlighted amount from the context menu, and carries a small converter in its popup. Choose your preferred currency once. From then on, prices you meet while browsing are read on your own device and the estimated equivalent is appended beside them. The original price is never replaced, hidden or rewritten — the converted value sits next to it, so you can always see what the merchant actually charges. No copying prices into a search box. No second tab open on a converter site. No mental arithmetic at the checkout. Automatic detection Common currency symbols and codes are recognised as they appear on a page: $99.99 EUR 49.50 £120 ¥15,000 ₹2,500 ₺1,200 A$150 C$80 99.99 USD 1.234,56 € 15.000 Ft 1 200 kr ₩58,000 Prices a site splits across separate elements are read too — a currency symbol in one span and the amount in the next, a very common pattern on shopping sites. If your preferred currency is JOD, a page showing $249.99 gains a small badge reading ≈ 177.24 JOD. Hover it and a tooltip shows the pair, the rate used, how old that rate is, and a reminder that it is a reference rate. Amounts already written in your preferred currency get no badge. Nothing is added inside text fields, editable areas, code blocks or preformatted text. Convert what you select For a price that was not detected automatically, or one written in an unusual way: Highlight the amount. Right-click the selection. Choose Convert Currency. A small card appears beside the selection with the converted value and the rate used. Click it to copy the figure. If the symbol could mean several currencies — a bare dollar sign, for instance — the card offers a compact picker so you can say which one you meant. Built-in converter The toolbar popup carries a plain converter: type an amount, choose the two currencies, read the result. A swap button reverses the direction, the result can be copied with one click, and the rate line underneath always names the pair and the source of the rate. It works whether or not the page you are on has any prices at all. One decision, remembered Your preferred currency is the only setting the extension needs. It is stored in your browser and applied everywhere until you change it. Auto-convert can be switched off entirely, and per-site rules let you always convert on one domain and never convert on another. The manual right-click conversion and the popup converter keep working either way. Numbers you can actually read Amounts are formatted for your browser's locale, so grouping and decimal marks look the way you expect. Each currency uses its own number of decimals — two for USD and EUR, none for JPY and KRW, three for JOD, KWD and BHD. Every converted figure is prefixed with ≈, never presented as an exact charge. Figures are set in a monospaced face with tabular digits, so badges stay steady and columns of prices stay aligned. Amounts stay in left-to-right order even inside right-to-left pages. Fast and lightweight Pages are scanned during idle time in short slices, and only where prices might be. Rates are fetched once per session and cached locally for six hours, so the popup opens instantly and pages are not slowed down waiting on the network. If a cached rate is more than twelve hours old the badge turns amber and says so. If no rate can be retrieved at all, the extension says that plainly instead of showing a number it cannot stand behind. Privacy No account, no sign-in, no telemetry, no advertising. Your preferred currency, site rules and cached rates stay in your browser. Price detection runs locally on your device. Page content is never uploaded. Only a currency code is sent to the rate service. Never page text, never the addresses you visit, never your selection, never an identifier. Your browsing history is not read or collected. Free Currency Converter is free. There is no subscription, no paid tier, no account and nothing to buy inside it. If it saves you a calculation now and then and you would like to support its upkeep, there is a Ko-fi page — entirely optional, and the extension behaves identically either way. Exchange rates, and the two tiers Rates come from Frankfurter, a free and open-source service built on European Central Bank and central-bank reference data. No API key, no account. These are reference rates. They may differ from the rate applied by a bank, card issuer, payment provider, exchange office or merchant. Use the converted figures as an estimate for orientation and comparison, not as the amount that will be charged. Every surface that shows a converted value carries this qualification: the badge tooltip, the chip, the popup footer and the options page.
