Read selected webpage text aloud with text-to-speech (TTS). Translate selections and choose your voice and reading speed. Hearlingo helps you understand the text you select on a webpage through speech and translation. Highlight a word, sentence, or short passage, then use the small panel beside your selection. LISTEN AT YOUR PACE • Read selections aloud using an eligible installed system voice. • Choose your source language and preferred voice for each language. • Adjust listening speed from 0.5× to 2×. • Pause and resume when supported by your voice, or restart and replay a reading. TRANSLATE WHERE YOU READ • Translate selected text using Chrome's built-in, on-device Translator when your browser, device, page, and language pair support it. • Choose from 39 source and target language options, including separate Simplified and Traditional Chinese choices. Availability is checked for each pair. • Copy a translation when you need it elsewhere. • Chrome may need to download language packs before a pair can be used. CHOOSE HOW IT STARTS Play and translate manually, or enable Auto play, Auto translate, or both in the toolbar popup. Automatic actions are off by default and apply to future selections. Hearlingo waits until you finish selecting. You can disable the extension from the popup at any time. DATA AND PRIVACY Hearlingo has no account, developer-operated backend, advertising, analytics, or saved text history. It processes selected text and, when needed, nearby context for language detection. Your settings stay in local extension storage. The most recent reading can remain in memory for Replay for up to five minutes after it finishes. Translations are not saved to extension storage. Speech is handled through Chrome's text-to-speech system. Hearlingo filters for voices reported as local and native, but Chrome selects the provider at playback time. This is not a guarantee of exclusively local speech delivery. Chrome-managed language downloads and your browser's own services are separate from Hearlingo. COMPATIBILITY This preview targets Chrome 138 or later on Windows and macOS. Speech requires an eligible installed voice. Translation has additional browser, device, page, and language-pair requirements; a listed language is not a promise that every pair works on every installation. HTTPS pages are recommended for translation. Select up to 2,000 characters on ordinary webpages, including supported text fields. Password fields, embedded frames, Chrome's internal pages, the Chrome Web Store, PDF viewer, and local file URLs are not supported. If audio status becomes uncertain, try Stop; if it persists, restart Chrome.
