Website Blocker - Block Distracting Sites, Private & Simple

Description

Block distracting websites and doomscrolling—simply and privately. No account, no tracking, just calm, science-backed nudges. Website Blocker helps you block distracting sites and quiet the endless scroll - simply, privately, and without the guilt trip. It's built on four ideas: keep it simple, earn your trust, protect your wellbeing, and help you focus. Add the sites that pull you in - social media, news, YouTube, Reddit, YouTube Shorts, whatever your weak spot is - and instead of willpower alone, you get a calm, science-backed nudge at the exact moment you're tempted to peek. No accounts. No tracking. No shaming. ★ SIMPLE BY DESIGN Add a site and you're done - no setup, no sign-up, no learning curve, nothing to configure. Paste a link or type a domain, and subdomains are handled for you. One clean switch turns everything on or off. That's the whole thing. ★ PRIVATE - AND YOU CAN PROVE IT No account. No analytics. No network calls of any kind, so your list of blocked sites never leaves your browser. It uses Chrome's on-device blocking and skips the extra history-reading permission many blockers ask for. The code is open source (MIT), so anyone can verify every word of this. ★ FOR YOUR WELLBEING, NOT JUST YOUR TO-DO LIST This isn't about squeezing out more work. When you go to unblock, it shows you one real, peer-reviewed finding about attention, sleep, stress, or doomscrolling - then lets you choose. The result is a calmer, healthier relationship with the internet: less mindless scrolling, better focus, and no streaks, guilt, or productivity scoreboards. Getting distracted is a very common pattern, not a personal failing. ★ IT ACTUALLY HELPS YOU STOP Most blockers either cave the instant you click "disable," or trap you behind a punishment you can't undo. This one adds a single deliberate second - a real reason to reconsider - then respects your choice. (Research on psychological reactance suggests blocks you can't undo tend to backfire; a nudge that keeps you in control works better.) ★ FEATURES • Block any website in one click - paste a link or type a domain • Blocks subdomains automatically (block reddit.com and old.reddit.com goes too) • Great for social media, YouTube & YouTube Shorts, Reddit, X/Twitter, Instagram, news, and doomscrolling • A calm, science-backed nudge every time you try to unblock - and on the block page • One switch to pause everything on the rare day you truly need to • Syncs your list across the computers where you're signed into Chrome - through your own browser, never a server of ours • Works in Incognito • Free - no paywall, no upsell, no "Pro" tier • Open source (MIT) ★ HOW IT WORKS 1. Add the sites that distract you. 2. Try to open one, and you'll land on a calm page with a real, research-backed tip instead. 3. Thinking of quitting? You can always turn blocking off - it just asks you to take a breath and one deliberate second first. ★ THE "SCIENCE-BACKED" PART IS REAL Every tip cites an actual peer-reviewed study, with a link to the source. They're drawn from published research on attention, doomscrolling, sleep, stress, and taking breaks - and they're fact-checked: popular myths (like the "it takes 23 minutes to refocus" figure) were deliberately left out. It's honest information to help you decide, not a scare tactic. ★ FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Is it hard to set up? No. There's nothing to configure and no account to create - add a site and it's working. That simplicity is the point. Does it track my browsing or send my data anywhere? No. It makes no network calls at all, and has no analytics and no accounts. Your blocked list stays in your browser - and because the code is open source, you can check. How is a website blocker good for my digital wellbeing? Instead of shaming you, it pairs blocking with real, cited research about sleep, stress, attention, and doomscrolling - helping you build a calmer, more intentional relationship with the internet rather than just fighting yourself. How do I block YouTube Shorts, Reddit, or Instagram? Add youtube.com, reddit.com, or instagram.com. Subdomains are covered automatically. Will it work in Incognito? Yes - switch on "Allow in Incognito" on Chrome's extensions page and blocking applies there too. How is this different from other blockers like BlockSite or StayFocusd? It's simpler, it's genuinely private (no tracking, no account, open source), and it replaces guilt and lockouts with calm, science-backed nudges shown right when you're tempted - with no ads or upsells. Can I still turn blocking off if I really need to? Always. It adds one deliberate second, never a lockout. You stay in control. ★ WHO IT'S FOR Students, remote workers, writers, developers - anyone who keeps landing on the same time-sink and wants a simpler, more private, more humane way to stop. Block distracting websites, scroll less, and get your attention back - in under a minute.
