Private-by-default workspace for working text, with optional sync through your own Google Drive using Root Connect. Root Workspace is a private-by-default writing and research workspace that stays beside the web. It gives working text a quiet place to land before it becomes a document, message, plan, or decision. Keep sources connected to your thinking, turn useful material into organized notes and tasks, and choose exactly what moves forward. WRITE BESIDE THE WEB Open Research Draft in Chrome's side panel and keep one automatically saved draft beside the pages you browse. Write without switching tabs or assembling a document too early. Your draft stays ready while you read, compare sources, and work through an idea. CAPTURE THE SOURCE, NOT JUST THE TEXT Attach the current webpage or capture selected text together with its source. Mark material as a Quote, Finding, or Question so the reason you saved it is still clear later. Page sources remain preserved when you save the draft as a note, append it to Inbox, or copy it as Markdown. MOVE USEFUL WORK FORWARD Save a Research Draft as a new note without clearing it, or append the note and its sources to Inbox and begin again with a clean draft. Use Inbox as a structured, date-stamped place to review captured work instead of letting it disappear into an unorganized pile. In the full Chrome workspace, write and edit notes, add tags, pin important items, search the library, and keep reusable material in Snippets. Unfinished checklist lines appear together in Open Tasks while remaining connected to their original notes. HAND OFF DELIBERATELY Context Handoff helps you prepare a focused packet from the current item, selected notes, pinned items, or open tasks. Preview the exact context first, then copy it, share it, save it as Markdown, or create a PDF. The handoff stays focused without exposing the rest of your workspace. BUILT FOR REAL WORK Root can support research across many tabs, early writing, project planning, meeting follow-up, source-backed notes, and the small decisions that need more context than a basic to-do list. It is designed for work that is still taking shape—not just finished documents. PRIVATE BY DEFAULT Root starts local. No Root account is required for local use, and Root does not operate a hosted notes or sync service. Capturing a source, copying text, exporting files, and creating a Context Handoff are deliberate actions you control. OPTIONAL SYNC THROUGH YOUR OWN GOOGLE DRIVE Root Connect is optional. If you choose to connect it, supported Root apps use a Root Workspace file in your own Google Drive. Google Drive access is requested only when you begin setup. Your Chrome workspace remains usable without Root Connect, and sync remains visible and user-controlled rather than being presented as real-time or always-on. CONTINUE ON IPHONE Root is also available on iPhone as a smaller, capture-first workspace for moments away from your desk. With optional Root Connect, supported Root apps can continue through the workspace file in your own Google Drive. Use the arrow when you want to bring the workspace forward. • Prevents Drive-applied changes from being mistaken for new local edits in another open Root workspace. • Stops an obsolete automatic sync from starting immediately after a successful manual sync and replacing the success message with an error. • Updates only notes that actually changed when applying a Drive sync, reducing unnecessary local work. • No new permissions. Root remains local-first and private by default.
