Hearald reads any page aloud in a natural voice that runs on your device. Click the button, follow the highlight, study by ear. Hearald reads the web out loud. Press play on any page and a natural-sounding voice reads it to you, highlighting each word as it is spoken so your eyes and ears stay together. It is built for people who have more to read than time to read it — students working through a chapter, researchers going through papers, anyone whose eyes are tired by the afternoon. WHY IT SOUNDS DIFFERENT Most read-aloud extensions use the flat robotic voice built into your operating system, or they send the page to a server and charge you monthly for a better one. Hearald bundles its own neural voice model and runs it on your own machine. You get 28 natural voices — US and UK, male and female — and you pay nothing to use them. PRIVATE BY DESIGN There is no account, no sign-in, and no server. The pages you read are never transmitted anywhere, because there is nowhere for them to go. No analytics, no telemetry, no tracking. This is not a setting you have to find and switch on — it is how the extension is built. WORKS OFFLINE The voices ship inside the extension, so once it is installed it reads with no internet connection at all. On a plane, on a train, in a dead zone. WHAT YOU GET - 28 natural voices, US and UK — audition them with your own words before you choose - Word-by-word highlighting that follows the voice - Start from any paragraph — hover it and press play, rather than starting at the top - Sentence-by-sentence skip forward and back — never ten seconds into the middle of a definition - Speed from 0.75x to 2x, changing instantly with no re-buffering - Remembers where you stopped, and offers to resume next time you open the page - Reads the actual article and skips menus, sidebars and footers - Keyboard shortcut (Alt+R) to open and close the reader HOW TO USE IT Open any article, click the Hearald button in the bottom corner, and press play. Use the gear to change voice at any time, or open Settings to set your default voice, speed and button position. Hearald is free.
