Description
Read and browse a folder of Markdown notes. Everything stays on your machine. How it works Click the toolbar icon. AtomicVaultReader opens in its own tab. Choose Grant vault, then pick the folder that holds your notes. The file tree appears on the left. Click a note to read it. Chrome forgets the grant when it restarts. AtomicVaultReader then shows a Reopen vault screen. One click restores the same folder — you do not pick it again. --- Move between notes Click a link in a note to open the target note. Click a name in the Linked from pane to jump to a note that links here. Type in the search box to filter the tree. Clear the box to bring the tree back. --- What it reads - Grant one folder once. AtomicVaultReader opens the same vault at every launch. - Walk a sorted file tree. A folder remembers if it is open or closed. - Render Markdown: headings, lists, tables, code blocks, task lists. - Follow a Markdown link or a wikilink to another note in the vault. - Resolve a wikilink by ID, by path, by file name, or by alias. A chooser opens when two notes share a name. - See every note that links to the open note, in the Linked from pane. - Search the whole vault as you type. - Show or hide the YAML frontmatter of a note. - Jump inside a long note with the On this page outline. - Expand or collapse every folder with one control. - Pick a light or dark theme, or follow the system. --- Privacy and permissions Everything stays on your device. AtomicVaultReader keeps a reference to your vault folder, your last note, your theme, and your layout, in Chrome storage on your own machine. No account. No cloud sync. No server. AtomicVaultReader makes no network request of any kind. It sends no analytics, no crash report, no usage data. Nobody behind this extension receives anything about you or your notes. A note can link to an image on a remote host. AtomicVaultReader does not load that image — it shows a placeholder with the host name instead. An image inside the vault loads from your disk. One permission, nothing else: - storage — remembers the last note, the theme, and the layout, on your device Access to your vault comes from the folder picker, not from a manifest permission. No host permission. No access to your browsing history or your cookies. --- Open source MIT licence. The reader, the Markdown renderer, and the wikilink resolver are all on GitHub, open to audit. --- Known limitations - AtomicVaultReader lists .md files only. Other files stay hidden in the tree. - The reader is read-only. It cannot move, rename, or repair a note. Edit a note in your own editor. - Inline HTML in a note shows as text. AtomicVaultReader never runs HTML from a note.
