Randomly: Weather, Timers, Notes, 400+ Tools

Description

A weather and clock orb on every page, a 409-tool palette, timers that outlive the tab, notes that autosave. Nothing is uploaded. A weather orb that sits on every page you visit. It shows the time and the sky where you actually are, and one hover opens search, a timer and notes. The search covers all 409 tools on randomly.online. Nothing you browse is uploaded. Ever. WHAT IT IS Randomly.online Companion is a Chrome extension that puts four things one hover away on any page: live weather with a real animated sky, a search box over 409 browser tools, timers that keep running after you close the tab, and notes that save as you type. It is built by the people who run randomly.online, and it is the fastest way into that site's tools without opening a tab first. Drag the orb anywhere. It remembers the spot, snaps to whichever side you left it on, and stays out of the way until you want it. Hover it and three round buttons appear beside a weather card. Click it for the full panel. THE FOUR THINGS IT DOES Weather and a clock, on every tab. The orb shows the time and the current condition. Behind the text is a canvas sky that actually changes: clear, cloud, rain, snow, fog and night are drawn rather than picked from a set of icons, and the sun and moon move with the hour. No stock icons. Hover for temperature, place, wind and feels-like. Open the panel for an hourly strip and the day's high and low. A search box over 409 tools. Type two letters. The palette ranks results as you go. Arrow keys move, Enter opens the tool in a new tab, and a pin keeps the ones you use at the top of every list from then on. The same search lives in the toolbar popup, so it still works on pages where an extension is not allowed to draw a widget, such as the Chrome Web Store itself. Timers that outlive the tab. They run inside the extension rather than inside the page. Close the tab anyway. The timer carries on counting and a Chrome notification arrives when it finishes. Presets are 5, 10, 15, 25 and 45 minutes, or type any number of minutes you like. Several can run at once. Notes that save as you type. Nothing is sent. Keep as many as you want, each autosaved to your own browser. Export one as plain text, as Markdown, or as CSV that opens in Excel with the accents intact. NOTHING YOU BROWSE IS UPLOADED This is the part worth checking rather than believing, so here is how to check it. There is exactly one network call in the entire extension. One. It lives in the background service worker, it goes to the weather API, and a single grep finds it before you install: search the source for "fetch(" and count the hits. It sends credentials: omit, so no cookie of yours travels with it. The only thing that leaves your machine is the location you set, and it is rounded to two decimal places first. That is roughly 1.1 km, which is more precision than a forecast can use and a great deal less than a street address. Your notes, your timers, the position you dragged the orb to and every setting stay in your own browser. They never leave. Delete the extension and they go with it. The page you are reading is never touched. Not read. Not sent. Not stored. The extension does not request Chrome's tabs permission, so it cannot see which sites you have open or what any address bar says, and that is not a promise from us: Chrome enforces it. The interface runs inside a closed shadow root, which means a website cannot restyle it and a website's scripts cannot read the note you are typing into it. No account. No API key. No analytics, no tracking pixel, and no third-party script of any kind runs inside the extension. Every line of JavaScript and CSS ships in the package, so there is no CDN that could serve you something different tomorrow. WHAT THE TOOLS ARE All of them run in your browser on randomly.online. There is no upload step, no sign-up, and no file size limit set by someone else's server. The palette covers ten groups. Date and time is the largest at 74 tools, then text at 67 and calculators at 64. There are 47 image tools, 43 PDF tools and 33 developer utilities. The last four groups are smaller: 28 unit converters, 26 random generators, 20 SEO generators and 7 spreadsheet readers. Typing three letters is faster than remembering which page a tool lives on. That is the whole reason the search is there. QUESTIONS PEOPLE ASK Does this extension read the pages I visit? No. It does not request Chrome's tabs permission, so it cannot read tab URLs, your browsing history, or the address bar. The content script that draws the orb runs on the page, which is the only way a page widget can exist, but it reads nothing out of the page and sends nothing anywhere. The one exception is one you trigger deliberately: if you highlight text and use the right-click menu to send it to a Randomly.online text tool, that selection is handed to the tool. Even then it goes through the extension's own storage rather than through the address bar, so it never appears in a URL and never reaches an analytics log. What data does it collect? One thing: the coordinates of the location you set, so it can fetch a forecast. They are rounded to two decimal places before they are sent, which is about 1.1 km. Nothing else is collected. Your notes, timers, orb position and settings are stored in your own browser and are never transmitted, sold, or shared. There is no account, no sign-up, and no identifier of any kind attached to a request. Which servers does it contact, and why? Four, all named in the manifest, and nothing else can be reached. Open-Meteo returns the forecast. The Open-Meteo geocoder turns a place name you type into coordinates, so you can set a location without sharing where you actually are. BigDataCloud turns coordinates back into a readable place name for the widget. ipwho.is runs only if you press the button that guesses your city from your IP address, and never otherwise. None of them receives a page you visited, a note you wrote, or anything you typed. Do the timers keep running if I close the tab? Yes. That is the reason the extension asks for the alarms permission. Timers are held by the background service worker rather than by any page, so closing the tab, navigating away, or opening a different window makes no difference to them. A Chrome notification fires when one finishes. Do the tools work offline? The extension's own surfaces do. Notes, timers and the tool search all work without a connection, because the tool index ships inside the package. The weather needs the network, for the obvious reason that a real condition for a real place has to be fetched. Opening a tool itself loads randomly.online, so that needs a connection too, though the tools do their work in your browser once the page is open. Is it free? Yes, and there is nothing to buy inside it. No account, no trial, no paid tier, and no advertising. How do I hide it on a site where I do not want it? Two ways. Open settings and add the site to the blocklist, and the orb will not appear there again. Ctrl+Shift+Y hides and shows it everywhere at once. The toolbar popup has the same switch, so you can turn the orb off and still use the search, the timers and the notes from the toolbar. KEYBOARD Ctrl+Shift+Space opens the tool palette from any page. Ctrl+Shift+Y shows or hides the orb everywhere. With the panel open, S goes to search, T to timers and N to notes, and Escape steps back one level, then closes. Rebind them at chrome://extensions/shortcuts. ABOUT RANDOMLY.ONLINE Randomly.online is a set of 409 free browser tools that run entirely on your own machine: PDF merging and splitting, image conversion and compression, text cleanup, calculators, date and time arithmetic, unit conversion, developer utilities, SEO generators and spreadsheet readers. Documents opened there are processed by JavaScript in your browser and are never uploaded. No backend exists. There is nowhere to send them to. No sign-up, no watermarks, and no file size limit imposed by an upload step. This extension is the shortest path to any of them, and it carries the same promise in a smaller box.
