Rate limit how much you read, while staying free to choose what, so browsing becomes conscious again. Rate Limited Browser slows down how fast you can read on the web, so it's harder to get lost in rabbit holes. It's free forever: no account, no tracking, no nonsense. HOW IT WORKS 1. You have a word budget that refills slowly. The words you read are paid for from it. 2. When you open a page, you see the first ~200 words for free. The rest is hidden. 3. Scroll or click, and the hidden words appear and are paid for. That's it! You start with a budget of ~2,500 words (15,000 characters). It refills at ~100 words a minute (10 characters a second). That's about half of normal reading speed, which leaves time to think about what you've read. When the budget is empty, text keeps appearing at the refill speed. WHAT DOESN'T COUNT • Headings, links, buttons and menus • Search engines (Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo, Ecosia and others): finding pages is free • Text you've already read since Chrome started • Text you scroll past without stopping ALSO • Videos and embedded content are blocked, and tabs are muted. • Links that would open a new tab open in the current one. No more 300 open tabs! SETTINGS Click the toolbar icon to change the size of your word budget, how fast it refills, and how pages look. Reduce distractions as much as you like: • As made • In a plain font, with images hidden until you click them (an image costs 200 characters) • As bare HTML, with images hidden the same way Everything stays on your computer.
