Translates visible YouTube captions between selected languages. Caption Translator for YouTube™ translates captions already displayed by YouTube into a language you choose, directly in Chrome. Choose the original caption language manually or leave it on Automatic Detection. Then select an output language and watch the visible captions translate while the video plays. Supported output languages: • English • Chinese • Japanese • Korean • Hindi • Arabic • Spanish How to use: 1. Open a YouTube video that has captions. 2. Click the extension icon. 3. Enable caption translation. 4. Select the source and output languages. 5. Turn on the video’s YouTube captions. Privacy: Caption text is processed locally using Chrome’s built-in on-device Language Detector and Translator APIs. Caption text is not sent to an external translation service. The extension does not use analytics, serve advertisements, or collect browsing history. Language preferences and the enabled setting are saved using Chrome sync storage. Requirements and limitations: • Requires Chrome 138 or newer. • The video must already have creator-provided or automatically generated captions. • The extension translates captions; it does not transcribe video audio. • Chrome may need to download an on-device language model the first time a language pair is used. • Translation availability depends on Chrome’s support for the selected language pair.
