Description
Listen to YouTube without the video: lowest quality, hidden picture and fewer images to save mobile data and battery. Turn YouTube into a listening app. Audio Mode drops the video to the lowest quality, hides the picture behind an animated overlay and, if you like, skips thumbnail and avatar downloads, so you use less data and your battery lasts longer. What it does - Save mobile data: plays at the lowest video quality instead of full HD, so a long listen can use far less data than watching (the amount depends on the video and what you would normally watch). - Extend battery life: the video is hidden instead of drawn on screen. - Simple toggle: one click on the toolbar icon, or Alt+Shift+A (Option+Shift+A on Mac). - Automatic memory: your choice is remembered between sessions. - Background listening: keeps playing when you switch to another tab. - Zero configuration: works as soon as it is installed. - Mini-player in the popup: play and pause, seek, playback speed and volume. Your volume stays the same across playlist and autoplay videos. - Player selector when several YouTube tabs are open. - Choose which quality to restore when you turn Audio Mode off. - Animated overlay with six color presets, custom colors, video artwork and an optional https image of your own. - Listening totals, a 7-day chart and a data-savings estimate based on the quality detected while you listen. - Skip ads button: presses YouTube's own Skip button while Audio Mode is on. - Hide video thumbnails, channel pictures and other images while you listen. - Avoids the "Video paused. Continue watching?" prompt. - Light and dark popup, reduced-motion support. Private by design - Runs only on www.youtube.com. - Two permissions: storage and network rules. - No accounts, no analytics, no remote servers. Listening stats stay in your browser.
