Description
Records UX audit sessions: screenshots the visible tab on every click and saves them to Downloads with a click-metadata manifest. UX AUDITS, MINUS THE HEAVY LIFTING UX Audit Recorder turns a single walkthrough of any website into a complete, organized audit record — automatically. Press record, click through a journey the way a real user would, and every click becomes a numbered screenshot in your Downloads folder, paired with a metadata manifest describing exactly what was clicked, where, and when. No more screenshotting flows by hand. No more renaming files, pasting into decks out of order, or realizing halfway through the analysis that you missed a step. One walkthrough in, a complete evidence trail out. HOW IT WORKS 1. Press Start in the toolbar popup. A red REC badge appears on the icon so you always know a session is live. 2. Walk the flow. Every click — on any page, even inside embedded iframes — captures a screenshot of the visible tab at that exact moment. 3. Press Stop. Your session folder is waiting in Downloads: numbered screenshots plus a manifest.json listing every step. WHAT YOU GET Each session produces one tidy folder: Downloads/ux-audit/2026-08-13_14-02-11/ 001-click.png 002-click.png 003-click.png manifest.json The manifest records every click's timestamp, page URL, page title, and a short description of the clicked element (like: button "Place order"). Screenshots are for flipping through; the manifest is for parsing — feed it to a spreadsheet, a report template, or your analysis tool of choice. WHY TEAMS INSTALL IT • AUDIT FASTER — Documenting a journey takes exactly as long as walking it. The capture, numbering, and filing that used to eat your afternoon happens automatically while you browse. • CAPTURE EVERYTHING — Every single click gets a screenshot. No sampling, no filtering, no "I didn't think that step mattered." The audit decides what's important — the recorder just makes sure nothing is missing. • BUILD AN EVIDENCE TRAIL — Reviews, handoffs, and stakeholder debates go better with receipts. Show exactly what the user saw at every step, in order, with timestamps. • ANALYSIS-READY OUTPUT — Structured filenames plus machine-readable metadata mean your session drops straight into whatever runs your analysis: a report, a synthesis doc, or an AI workflow. • STAY IN FLOW — No configuration, no project setup, no learning curve. Two buttons: Start and Stop. BUILT FOR UX researchers and designers running heuristic reviews or journey audits. Product managers documenting flows and competitor walkthroughs. Agencies capturing before/after evidence for clients. QA and support teams reproducing a path click by click. Anyone who has ever assembled a user journey out of manual screenshots — this replaces that entire chore. PRIVACY: NOTHING LEAVES YOUR MACHINE UX Audit Recorder makes zero network calls. No uploads, no analytics, no accounts, no AI processing. Screenshots are captured with Chrome's own APIs and written directly to your Downloads folder — that is the entire data path. Your recordings belong to you, on your machine, full stop. THOUGHTFUL UNDER THE HOOD • Clicks are detected before the page reacts, so captures land at the right moment. • Works inside iframes, so embedded checkouts and third-party widgets don't leave gaps. • Rapid clicks are queued and retried around Chrome's screenshot rate limit instead of being silently dropped. • Recording state survives popup closes and background restarts — long sessions are safe. GOOD TO KNOW • Captures the visible viewport at the moment of each click (not a full scrolling page grab) — what the user actually saw. • Chrome may ask once for permission to download multiple files on your first session. Allow it and you're set. • Like all extensions, it can't record on chrome:// pages or the Chrome Web Store itself. Press record. Click through. Done.
