Summarize articles with on-device AI, save tabs into tagged collections, hide tabs behind a passcode, and pause distracting sites. Summarize articles on your device using AI, save tabs into tagged collections, and pause distracting sites while you focus. Never lose track of what you read. Rekoll uses AI to summarize the article you are reading — and that AI runs on your computer, not on a server. Open a tab, click Summarize, and get the takeaway, the key points, and what it means, without the article ever leaving your browser. Save your open tabs into collections that tag themselves. Search what you have read by keyword or by meaning. Pause the sites that pull you away while you work. One extension, one purpose: helping you keep track of what you read and mean to read. The AI runs on your machine, not a server On newer versions of Chrome, Rekoll uses the AI that already ships with the browser — Gemini Nano, running locally, with nothing to download. On every other supported browser it downloads a compact, already-trained language model once, a few seconds over your existing connection, and from then on every summary is produced entirely on your own hardware. That has three consequences worth knowing before you install anything that reads what you read: It works offline. Once the model is in place, summarizing needs no connection at all. On a plane, on hotel wifi, with the network off entirely — it behaves exactly the same. Nothing is uploaded to be summarized. Not the article, not an excerpt, not a copy "just for processing". The text is read by your browser and never leaves it, so there is no server log of what you read, because there is no server involved. It is never metered. There is no per-summary cost to pass on to you, so there is no summary limit on any plan, including the free one. Summarize ten articles or ten thousand — the free plan does not care. Summaries come back in the language the article was written in, not translated into English by default. Because a summary is AI-generated, treat it as a starting point rather than a substitute for the article — it can occasionally miss nuance or get a detail wrong, the way any summary, AI or human, can. Summarize any article, instantly One click on the toolbar icon reads the page you are on and gives you back three things: the core takeaway in a sentence, the key points as a short list, and — when the article has one — what it actually means going forward. Long articles are broken into pieces and rolled up into a single summary rather than cut off partway through. Working through several tabs at once does not mean waiting on each one. Click Summarize, move to the next tab, click again — Rekoll queues the work and keeps going in the background while you keep reading. The extension icon shows what is still in progress and clears each entry the moment it finishes, so the list only ever shows what is actually waiting. Come back to a page you have already summarized and the button tells you at a glance: it turns green, because the work is already done and sitting in your library. Never lose a tab again Save the tab you are looking at, or save every open tab in the window at once. Rekoll groups them by topic and tags each group automatically, so "twelve tabs from a Tuesday afternoon of research" becomes something you can actually find a month later — by the subject you were researching, not by trying to remember which Tuesday it was. Add your own tags on top if you want a system that is entirely yours. Every saved collection lives on a dedicated page with its own search, so filtering by tag takes one keystroke, not a scroll through everything you have ever saved. Export any collection as a plain HTML page of links — no lock-in, no proprietary format, just a file you can open, forward, or archive on its own. Search your library two ways Keyword search works exactly as you would expect and needs nothing beyond what is already on your device — it looks at the words in your saved summaries and titles, instantly, with no connection required. Search by meaning finds something by what it was about rather than the exact words it happened to use — "that piece on interest rates" finds the right article even if it never used those two words. This is the one feature in Rekoll that involves a server, and it is worth being precise about what that means: the summary you saved and the words you type into the search box are each turned into a numerical fingerprint, and those fingerprints are compared. That step runs on Rekoll's own infrastructure, against the summary your machine already wrote — never against the article itself, which was never uploaded and by then exists nowhere but your own browser. Meaning search is part of the yearly plan; keyword search and summarizing stay free and entirely on your computer on every plan, forever. Hide tabs behind a passcode Save a tab to your account, close it, and get it back later by entering a 4-digit code on the Rekoll website — from any device, not just this computer. Nothing about a hidden tab is stored locally: no title, no address, no trace that it ever existed on this machine. It is the tab equivalent of putting something in a drawer only you have the key to. Part of the yearly plan. Focus mode Name the sites that pull you away from what you are actually trying to do, and the hours you want to work. During those hours, those specific sites are paused — nothing else — and in their place you get a short quote and your own running task list. Tick something off and it moves to Completed, so the page you land on instead of doom-scrolling is doing something useful. Turn it off manually any time it is not scheduled; while it is scheduled, it stays on for the duration you set, because a focus mode you can dismiss the moment it becomes inconvenient is not actually focus mode. Part of the yearly plan. Built around your privacy, not around ours Summarizing never leaves your device, on any plan, ever. The article you read is read by your own browser and nowhere else. Saving a tab sends only its title and address to your account when you are signed in — never the page's content. Search by meaning is the only feature that touches a server, and it only ever sees a summary you chose to save, plus whatever you type into the search box that moment. The focus block page makes no network request at all, by design, so nothing — not even Rekoll — can tell which sites you tried to open while you were meant to be working. You are always in control. Exclude any website from ever being saved, and withdraw the extension's permission to read pages at any time from Settings. Plans — free to start, pay only when it earns it Rekoll Free — $0, no account needed. Summarize as much as you like, never metered. Keep the 100 most useful summaries in your library. Save tabs into tagged collections. Keyword search, and export whenever you want. Works offline. Rekoll Local — $29, one-time. Everything in Free, plus an unlimited library — the 100-summary cap is lifted for good. Sign in once to unlock it, and from then on it works exactly like the free plan: entirely on this computer, entirely offline. One purchase, no renewal, ever, for this major version. Rekoll Cloud — $79/year. Everything in Local, plus syncing across every device you use (up to 10,000 synced items, with a warning well before you get there), search by meaning, hidden tabs behind a passcode, and focus mode. Cancel any time from your dashboard — one button, Stripe's own billing portal, and everything you have already saved stays exactly where it is. Reaching the free plan's 100-summary cap does not stop you from summarizing, and never deletes anything you have already saved — Rekoll simply stops adding new entries to the library until you either remove something or upgrade, and it tells you plainly when that happens rather than silently dropping your oldest summary to make room. Checkout is handled by Stripe. You are never asked to create a password — after paying, Rekoll emails you a sign-in link, and that same link works inside the extension. Not satisfied? Email support within 14 days of paying for a no-questions refund on either plan; if a yearly renewal catches you off guard, you have 30 days from that charge to ask for it back, as long as you have not used Cloud since. Works in the article's own language Rekoll detects the language an article is written in and writes the summary in that same language, rather than defaulting to English and translating everything into it. A confidently detected language gets an explicit instruction to match it; when detection is unsure, Rekoll still does its best rather than guessing wrong with false confidence. You should not have to read a summary in a different language than the article you gave it. Getting started takes under a minute Install the extension, open any article, and click Summarize — that is the whole setup for the free plan. No account, no form, no email to confirm. The very first summary on a given machine may take a little longer while the on-device model finishes downloading; every summary after that is fast, because the model is already there. If you later decide you want an unlimited library or syncing across devices, upgrading takes one click from the same popup and never requires reinstalling or losing anything you have already saved. No ads, no tracking, nothing sold Rekoll has no advertising and no analytics that follow you around the web. Nothing about what you read, search, or save is sold or shared with anyone. The only data that ever leaves your device is what this listing already describes in full — a tab's title and address when you save it while signed in, and a summary's fingerprint when you use meaning search — and both of those only happen on a paid plan you chose. On the free plan, nothing leaves your device at all. Who Rekoll is for Researchers with more open tabs than they can hold in their head. Students working through a reading list that keeps growing faster than they can finish it. Anyone who reads for work — news, reports, competitor sites — and needs a record of what they read that they can actually search later, not just a history list of URLs. People who have tried "read it later" tools and found that saving something is not the same as ever coming back to it. If any of that sounds familiar, Rekoll is built for exactly this. Common questions Do I have to pay to try it? No. Install it and start summarizing immediately, without creating an account. Summarizing is never metered on any plan, because it runs on your own machine and costs nothing to provide. Where does the AI actually run? In your browser, on your device. On newer Chrome builds it uses the browser's own built-in AI; on everything else Rekoll downloads a small model once and runs it locally afterward. Article text is never uploaded, on any plan, at any point. Does one-time really mean forever? Yes. Rekoll Local is a single payment for this major version, with no subscription and nothing to renew. What happens to my library at 100 summaries? Summarizing keeps working exactly as before. New summaries simply stop being added to your library until you delete something or upgrade — nothing you have already saved is ever removed to make room. Can I get my data out? Yes. Every tab collection exports as a plain, portable HTML file of links, on any plan, at any time.
