Unlike its close relative, the pufferfish, which has spines that are only visible when it inflates, the porcupine puffer's sharp quills are always present and act as a constant visual warning. When faced with danger, this fish has the incredible ability to rapidly gulp water or air, expanding its body into a round, spiky sphere. This defense mechanism makes it nearly impossible for a predator to swallow. Found in tropical and subtropical seas worldwide, they are a fascinating example of evolutionary adaptation.
