Shorten links and generate shareable QR codes from your browser. Shrtn is a fast, practical URL shortener and QR-code generator built directly into your browser. Shorten the current page, shorten a hyperlink without opening it, generate downloadable QR codes, review recent results, and view redirect analytics—all from one lightweight browser extension. No account or sign-in is required. WHAT YOU CAN DO WITH SHRTN • Shorten the current browser page Open the Shrtn popup to create a public short link for the page you are currently viewing. • Shorten manually entered URLs Paste or type any valid HTTP or HTTPS URL into Shrtn and generate a public short link. • Shorten hyperlinks without opening them Right-click any hyperlink and use Shrtn to create a short URL without first opening the destination page. • Use browser context-menu actions Right-click the current page to: – Shorten the current page – Generate a QR code for the current page Right-click a hyperlink to: – Shorten the selected hyperlink – Generate a QR code for the selected hyperlink Shrtn processes the page or hyperlink URL only after you explicitly select one of its context-menu actions. • Generate downloadable QR codes Generated short-link results include a QR code that can be downloaded and shared in presentations, documents, printed materials, websites, and social platforms. • Copy and open short links Copy a generated short URL to your clipboard or open it directly in a new browser tab. • View redirect analytics View information associated with a generated short link, including: – Number of successful redirects – Link creation time – Most recent successful redirect time • Refresh analytics Retrieve the latest click count and redirect information directly from the Shrtn API. • Reopen recent results Shrtn stores up to 20 recently generated results in your browser’s local extension storage. Recent results may include: – Original URL – Generated short URL – Short code – Creation information – Click analytics – Whether the result came from the popup, page menu, or link menu – Time the result was saved locally • Restore your last result Close and reopen the extension popup without immediately losing your most recently generated short link. • Detect duplicate URLs When a URL already appears in your recent local history, Shrtn can show the existing result instead of automatically creating an unnecessary duplicate. You can then: – Reuse the previous short link – View or download its QR code – Open the short link – Deliberately create another short link • Clear local history Remove locally stored recent results from the extension whenever you choose. BUILT FOR A FASTER BROWSER WORKFLOW Shrtn v1.1.0 expands beyond a standard popup-based URL shortener. Instead of copying a long URL, opening another website, pasting the URL, and creating a result manually, Shrtn lets you complete the same workflow directly from your browser. Shrtn is useful for: • Developers sharing documentation, repositories, demos, or project links • Students sharing research and learning resources • Recruiters and professionals sharing job, portfolio, or application links • Content creators generating QR codes for digital and printed content • Teams sharing long internal or public URLs • Anyone who frequently copies, shortens, or distributes links RELIABLE REQUEST HANDLING Shrtn includes handling for temporary network and API problems. The extension uses: • Request timeouts • Clear error messages • Safe retry handling for analytics requests • No automatic retry for short-link creation requests, helping prevent accidental duplicate links • API availability feedback inside the extension • Automatic reset of copy-button feedback PRIVACY AND DATA HANDLING Shrtn does not require an account or sign-in. Recent-link history is stored locally using browser extension storage. Shrtn does not create a separate online user profile for this local history. When you choose to shorten a URL, the selected or entered URL is sent securely to the Shrtn backend so that a persistent public short link can be created. The backend stores the information required to operate the public short link, including: • Original destination URL • Generated short code and public short URL • Creation timestamp • Successful redirect count • Most recent successful redirect timestamp When the extension communicates with the Shrtn service, hosting infrastructure may process technical request information such as: • IP address • Request time • Browser or user-agent information • Diagnostic and error information This technical information is used only to deliver, secure, maintain, diagnose, and protect the service. QR-code images are generated inside the browser extension and are not stored as image files by the Shrtn backend. Shrtn does not: • Require a user account • Sell user data • Use submitted URLs for personalized advertising • Build behavioral advertising profiles • Track users across unrelated websites • Read clipboard contents • Continuously monitor browsing activity • Read page text, images, form data, or other page content Do not shorten confidential, private, access-controlled, expiring, or token-containing URLs. Read the complete privacy policy: https://shrtn.up.railway.app/privacy EXTENSION PERMISSIONS Shrtn requests only the browser permissions required for its core functionality. • activeTab Used after you open Shrtn to access the current tab’s HTTP or HTTPS URL for shortening or QR-code generation. Shrtn does not continuously monitor open tabs or read the page’s text, images, forms, or other content. • clipboardWrite Used only when you select a Copy action to place a generated short URL on your system clipboard. Shrtn does not read clipboard contents. • contextMenus Used to provide user-initiated right-click actions for current pages and selected hyperlinks. These actions support page shortening, hyperlink shortening, and QR-code generation. • storage Used with local browser extension storage to: – Store up to 20 recent results – Restore the most recent result – Detect recently shortened duplicate URLs – Store pending context-menu results – Reopen previous results – Let users clear local history • Host access to https://shrtn.up.railway.app Used only to communicate with the official Shrtn API. The API is used to create persistent public short links and retrieve redirect analytics for generated links. Shrtn does not request host access to unrelated websites.
