Export full ChatGPT conversations from your logged-in browser session to local Markdown, PDF, and JSON files. Chat Exporter is an independent browser extension that helps you save your own ChatGPT conversations as local files from the ChatGPT tab where you are already signed in. Open ChatGPT, click the extension icon, and use the panel to export the current chat or discover and export your conversation history. Exports can include Markdown for readable archives, PDF for portable reading, and JSON for structured reuse. Single-format exports save individual files. Multi-format exports save a ZIP with a manifest, selected conversation files, and retry lists when needed. There are no accounts or checkout gates. Built for long exports: - Saves local resume checkpoints after completed downloads. - Supports stopping and continuing an export. - Retries temporary backend failures. - Slows down and pauses when ChatGPT rate limits the session. - Can ask for an export folder in supported Chromium browsers. Privacy model: - Runs only on `chatgpt.com` and `chat.openai.com`. - Uses the logged-in ChatGPT browser session you already control. - Does not ask for your ChatGPT password. - Does not persist bearer tokens. - Does not send conversation content, metadata, settings, checkpoints, authentication headers, or bearer tokens to the developer or to third-party servers. - Stores only local settings and resume checkpoints in extension storage. Limitations: - ChatGPT web backend routes are private and may change. - Exported files are created by your browser on your device. - This extension is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or produced by OpenAI.
