Click on any site to see if its phone numbers are tracked: tel: links vs. plain text, call tracking, Lead Recorder, GA4 and GTM. Call Tracking Check — see if a website's phone numbers are actually tracked One click on any website tells you whether its phone numbers are set up to convert on mobile and whether calls from that site are being tracked at all. No sign-up, no dashboard, no waiting for a report — the answer shows up in the popup in under a second, and the untracked numbers are highlighted right there on the page. THE PROBLEM THIS SOLVES Most websites lose call leads in one of two invisible ways. Either the phone number on the page is just plain text — meaning a visitor on their phone can't tap it to call, they have to manually copy or type the number — or the number is tappable but nothing on the backend is actually recording that the call happened, so the business has no idea which marketing channel drove it. Both problems are completely invisible just by looking at a page. You have to check the code. That's what this extension does for you, instantly, without opening dev tools. WHAT IT CHECKS, IN DETAIL Phone number count and format The extension scans the live page for every phone number it can find, then splits them into two groups: tel: links (clickable, mobile-ready) and plain text numbers (not clickable, invisible to mobile conversion tracking). If a chunk of numbers are plain text, they're highlighted directly on the page so you can see exactly which ones need a tel: link added — not just a total count. Lead Recorder detection Checks whether Lead Recorder's tracking snippet is installed on the page, either loaded directly or deployed through a Google Tag Manager container. This is useful both for site owners confirming their own install and for agencies checking a prospect's current tracking stack. GA4 and Google Tag Manager detection Separately reports whether Google Analytics 4 (via gtag.js or the dataLayer) and Google Tag Manager are present on the page, so you get a quick read on the analytics stack alongside the call tracking check. On-page highlighting This is the part that makes the result actionable instead of just informational. Numbers that aren't clickable are marked directly on the page you're viewing, in place, so you don't have to cross-reference a report against the page to find them. A "Clear highlights" option resets the page back to normal. WHO THIS IS FOR Digital marketing agencies auditing a prospective client's site before a pitch PPC and paid search managers checking whether call conversions are being tracked before running ad spend toward a landing page Local SEO and Google Business Profile consultants reviewing a client's call attribution setup Web developers and CRO consultants doing a quick technical audit of a site's lead capture In-house marketers double-checking their own site's tracking after a redesign or CMS migration Anyone comparing a site's current call tracking vendor against alternatives PRIVACY AND HOW IT WORKS This extension only runs when you click it, on the tab you're actively viewing (Chrome's activeTab permission — no background access to sites you haven't clicked on, no host permissions requested). Everything happens locally in your browser: the page is scanned, the results are shown in the popup, and the highlighting is applied directly to that page's DOM. Nothing is sent to Lead Recorder's servers or anywhere else. There's no account, no login, no tracking of you as a user, and no data collected about the sites you check. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Is this free? Yes, completely free, with no limits on how many sites you can check. Do I need a Lead Recorder account to use it? No. The extension works standalone on any website, whether or not that site uses Lead Recorder. What's a tel: link, and why does it matter? A tel: link is an HTML link formatted as <a href="tel:5551234567">, which makes a phone number tappable on mobile devices — tapping it opens the phone's dialer. A phone number written as plain text on a page looks the same visually but isn't clickable, so mobile visitors have to manually copy or retype it, which measurably reduces call volume from mobile traffic. Does it work on every website? It works on any standard http or https website. Pages that block browser extensions entirely (like the Chrome Web Store itself, or some internal browser pages) can't be scanned, which is a Chrome-level restriction, not something specific to this tool. Can it detect every call tracking platform? It checks for the most widely used platforms in the industry (listed above). A custom-built or very niche call tracking setup outside that list may not be detected, since detection is based on known vendor script signatures rather than a live API check. Will it slow down or change the page I'm checking? No. It runs a one-time scan when you click the icon and only adds visual highlighting to numbers it flags — it doesn't modify any site functionality, forms, or navigation.
