Includes fallback parsing for books with non-standard TOC formats. 🤖 AI Assistant (bring your own key) — open Settings → AI Keys, paste an API key from Anthropic, OpenAI, Google Gemini, or OpenRouter, and unlock chapter summaries, "explain this" on any selection, key-point extraction, and chat-style Q&A. Your key is stored locally and requests go directly from your browser to the provider you chose. No backend, no proxy. The reader works fully without AI if you'd rather not add a key. ✍️ Highlights — select any text, pick from five colors, add notes. A sidebar lists every highlight across every book; click to jump back. Re-select a highlighted passage to remove it in one click. 📚 One-click define — select any word and see its definition, phonetic, and pronunciation audio inline. Powered by a free public dictionary API; falls back to Google text-to-speech for pronunciation when no human recording is available. 🌐 Inline translation — translate any selected text into 10 languages without copying it elsewhere. Requires an AI key (same one you use for the assistant). 🔍 Web search — send a selection straight to Google in a new tab. 🧠 Vocabulary builder — every word you define is automatically saved with the sentence you saw it in. Review your collection with spaced-repetition flashcards (Leitner box: 1d → 3d → 7d → 14d → 30d → mastered). Quiz yourself with fill-in-the-blank using your own saved sentences. Export everything as CSV for Anki, Notion, or anywhere else. 🖼️ PDF thumbnails — a bottom strip shows page previews so you can jump to any page visually. 📐 Resizable panels — drag the edge of any sidebar to resize it. Library, TOC, AI, Highlights, and Words each get their own panel. 🔒 Local-first, no sign-in — your books, highlights, vocabulary, and reading positions live in your browser (IndexedDB + chrome.storage.local). The extension has no accounts, no cloud sync, and no backend. Nothing about your reading is sent anywhere unless you trigger a feature that explicitly calls out to a third-party service (see Permissions below). **Permissions explained:** • storage — saves your books, highlights, vocabulary, reading positions, settings, and (if you choose to add one) your AI provider API key on this device. • api.dictionaryapi.dev — fetches word definitions when you use Define. • translate.google.com — fetches pronunciation audio when no other recording is available. • api.anthropic.com / api.openai.com / generativelanguage.googleapis.com / openrouter.ai — only contacted if you add an API key for that specific provider in Settings → AI Keys. No requests are made to any of these otherwise. This version removes the Google Sign-In and cloud-sync features advertised by earlier 1.0.x builds. AI is now bring-your-own-key only. No analytics. No telemetry. No ads.
