Client for calling Emacs' Org protocol including capture, roam-ref, store-link, open-source, and more. Send any web page straight to Emacs Org mode. Org Protocol Client turns the current page into an org-protocol:// link and hands it to Emacs — capture a page or a text selection with org-capture, store a link for later insertion with C-c C-l, add a reference to your Org-roam notes, or open the page's source locally in Emacs. HOW IT WORKS Click the toolbar icon (or press Ctrl+Shift+X / Cmd+Shift+X by default) and an in-page menu lists your configured protocols — pick one and the extension builds the org-protocol link and sends it to Emacs. Prefer zero clicks? Enable quick capture and the extension immediately sends a default protocol, chosen automatically by whether you have text selected: no selection captures the link and title, a selection captures the quoted text too. Send the links by right clicking as well. All the protocols are listed in the context menu under the "Send to Emacs" submenu. DEFAULT PROTOCOLS • Capture link — URL and title to your link template • Capture selection — URL, title, and selected text to your selection template • Store link — save the URL and title for org-insert-link • Open source — open the (decoded) URL locally in Emacs FULLY CONFIGURABLE The options page lets you create any number of protocols, each with its own sub-protocol, capture template key, and parameters — parameters are validated against what each sub-protocol accepts, so misconfigurations are caught before they reach Emacs. An Advanced section goes further and lets you edit the wire format itself: • Define new sub-protocols (such as roam-ref or your own custom handlers) and declare which parameters they accept. • Rename the query keys values are sent under, to match whatever your Emacs-side handler expects. • Choose where each value comes from: the page URL (decoded so local file names reach Emacs without percent-encoding), the page title, the selected text, or a template key you are prompted for at capture time. Reset and Defaults buttons make it safe to experiment, and a built-in Help dialog documents every setting. A debug toggle logs each generated link to the page console for easy troubleshooting. REQUIREMENTS This extension talks to Emacs, so a small one-time setup is needed: load org-protocol and start the Emacs server in your init file, define capture templates matching your protocols' template keys, and register emacsclient as your operating system's handler for org-protocol:// links. Step-by-step instructions for Linux, macOS, and Windows are in the README on the extension's homepage. PRIVACY Everything happens locally. The extension needs only the active tab, storage for your settings, and scripting to show its menu — no data is collected, and nothing is sent anywhere except to your own Emacs.
