Unofficial (not affiliated with Google). Encrypts subject, text & attachments with AES-256-GCM, locally in the browser. E2E Encryption for Gmail is an unofficial browser extension that encrypts the subject, message text, and attachments of your Gmail messages directly in the browser with AES-256-GCM – before they ever leave Gmail. IMPORTANT: This extension has no connection to Google and is not an official Gmail product. HOW IT WORKS • You create a shared key for each contact (self-generated or existing) and exchange it once via a secure channel (in person, messenger, phone – not by email). • When composing, you enable the 🔒 icon in the toolbar – the subject, text, and all attachments are automatically encrypted before sending. • When reading, the extension recognizes encrypted messages by the key's fingerprint and decrypts them automatically if the matching contact is stored. FEATURES • AES-256-GCM encryption for subject, text, and file attachments • Automatic detection & decryption when reading, based on a key fingerprint (the key itself is never revealed) • Contact management with key generator, export/import as JSON • Runs entirely locally – no servers, no tracking, no analytics PRIVACY All contacts and keys are stored exclusively locally in your browser (localStorage of mail.google.com). There is no server, no cloud sync, and no sharing with third parties. Details: see privacy policy. IMPORTANT NOTE Both communication partners need the extension and the same key. Encrypted messages cannot be read by recipients without this extension. This extension is a tool for personal use and does not replace a vetted security solution for highly sensitive or business-critical communication.
