Select a short passage or moment, then add the note only you could make. Anotated lets you attach original commentary to short passages and timestamped media moments on the web. Open Anotated in Chrome’s side panel while reading an article, watching a YouTube video, or listening on a supported podcast page. How it works: 1. Open the Anotated side panel. 2. Highlight a short passage, or select the current playback moment. 3. Add your own commentary. 4. Preview and publish the annotation. Article annotations include the selected passage, your commentary, and a link to the original source. YouTube and supported podcast annotations include a timestamped segment of up to 90 seconds. YouTube annotations open the embedded video at the selected starting point. Published annotations appear on Anotated’s public social annotation network, where people can discuss, vote, save, share, follow profiles, and file copyright claims. Data use: When you open the side panel, Anotated reads the active page URL, title, favicon, supported media playback time, and text you intentionally highlight. This information is displayed in the side panel while you prepare the annotation. The source information, selected passage or timestamp, and commentary are sent to Anotated only after you choose “Publish note.” Anotated does not collect browsing history in the background, read unrelated tabs, sell personal data, serve personalised advertising, or publish anything without confirmation. A Google or X account is required to publish. New accounts complete a short onboarding process before publishing their first annotation.
