ELI5 explains highlighted text privately, from Caveman to Professor. Ever hit a sentence you don't understand? Highlight it and ELI5 explains it right there, in one small draggable card. • Select any text on any page → click the Explain tag → get a clear explanation. • A five-stop depth slider: Caveman · Five year old · Everyday · Expert · Professor. • Ask follow-up questions; links in answers open so you can fact-check the source. • Copy or regenerate. Your recent explanations are kept in the toolbar popup. Private by design: • ELI5 sends the highlighted text ONLY to the model provider you choose, using YOUR OWN API key (or a local model on your machine). • No middleman server. No analytics. No tracking. Your key is stored locally and is only ever sent to the provider you selected. Bring your own model: • OpenAI, OpenRouter, Groq, Google Gemini, xAI, or any OpenAI-compatible server. • Or run a local model (e.g. llama.cpp / Ollama / LM Studio) for fully offline, fully private explanations.
