Definitions that adapt to the sentence and page you are reading. Adapt Dictionary explains what a word, phrase, or acronym means in the passage you are actually reading. Ordinary dictionaries often return the most common definition even when a passage uses a technical, specialized, or less common meaning. That mismatch interrupts reading and forces you to search elsewhere just to understand the sentence in front of you. Double-click a word, use the selection context menu, or highlight text and press the keyboard shortcut. Adapt reads a limited amount of nearby text and returns a concise definition in an unobtrusive card without making you leave the page. Definitions that follow the context • Understand technical terms, specialized language, and ambiguous words. • Expand acronyms only when the passage supports the expansion. • See why a meaning fits the current passage. • Open relevant linked terms inside the same definition card and use Back to return. • Drag the definition card anywhere in the browser viewport while you keep reading. • Send an idea or report a problem through the compact feedback form in the popup. Choose your model provider Connect OpenAI, Anthropic, or an OpenAI-compatible provider using your own API key and model ID. Adapt includes provider-aware setup help, connection diagnostics, estimated cost per lookup, accumulated estimated usage, and billing links when an account runs out of credits. Designed around deliberate use Adapt sends information to a provider only after you request a definition. Each request contains the selected term, up to 3,500 characters of nearby readable text, the page title, and the website hostname. It does not contain the complete page URL. The saved API key is encrypted locally with AES-256-GCM. You can independently enable or disable double-click, the context-menu command, and the keyboard shortcut. Definition history is optional and can be cleared at any time. Provider API usage may incur charges from the provider you select. Adapt’s cost figures are estimates and are not provider invoices or live balances.
