The Financial Register — check a claim

Right-click a claim, image or page to check it with The Financial Register's fact-check desk, or report a scam you have seen. omeone forwards you a message about an unpaid toll. A post says the government is depositing $4,200 into every account next Tuesday. A screenshot of a "news article" turns up in a group chat. This extension puts the newsroom one right-click away. Highlight any text, right-click an image, or right-click the page itself, and choose "Check this claim with The Financial Register". The desk opens with what you chose already filled in. It searches for sources, weighs the ones that support the claim against the ones that undermine it, and tells you which — and when it cannot find two independent sources, it says "not verified" instead of guessing. Seen something that looks like a scam? "Report this to the desk as a possible scam" sends what you highlighted and the address you were on to our newsroom, so we can see patterns forming across many readers' reports. WHAT THIS EXTENSION CANNOT DO It asks for one permission: the right-click menu. It cannot read the pages you visit. It has no access to your history, cookies or accounts, stores nothing on your device, sets no identifiers, and contains no analytics or advertising. It never sends anything anywhere except by opening a page on our own site, in a tab you can see. Nothing is submitted until you press a button on that page. Account numbers, card numbers and phone numbers are stripped from anything you send before it is processed.
