Search tabs. Jump to live calls. Dedup + group. Save sessions. Hand off to phone via QR. Zero host permissions. Tabito is a tiny, local Chrome extension for people who live in tabs. It does seven things — and only seven things: ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 1. SMART DUPLICATE HANDLING ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ Tabito tells a deliberate copy from an accidental re-open by watching how a tab is born. • Type a URL that's already open in another tab? Tabito drops the fresh tab and jumps you to the existing one. • Right-click → Duplicate on purpose? The copy is kept. If you never touch it for X minutes, it closes itself. Focusing a copy resets its timer, so a copy you actually use stays. • Pinned tabs are never touched, ever. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 2. JUMP TO ANY LIVE CALL ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ One shortcut (Alt+Shift+M by default) focuses your live call from anywhere in the browser. Works with: • Google Meet • Zoom (web client) • Microsoft Teams (web) • WhatsApp Web If you have more than one call open, press again to cycle. Detection is URL-based — so muted sessions and all-quiet brainstorms still count as live and never trigger the auto-close. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 3. AUTO-CLOSE IDLE CALL TABS ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ When a call actually ends and you leave the tab sitting there, Tabito closes it after a delay you set (default 3 min). Viewing the tab or navigating back into a call cancels the close. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 4. FUZZY TAB SEARCH ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ Click the icon, start typing. Fuzzy match across titles and hosts. Live-call tabs float to the top. Arrow keys navigate, Enter jumps, Alt+1-9 leaps straight to a row. Works across every window. Power filters: • host:github → only tabs on github.com • live: → only tabs in active calls • closed: → recently-closed tabs (last 25) • audio: → tabs currently making noise ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 5. WORKSPACES + AUTO-GROUP ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 19 built-in workspaces cover the tabs you actually use — Work, Dev, AI, Design, Calls, Cloud, Google Docs, Analytics, Social, Read, Shop, Media, Finance, Banking, Learning, Health, Travel, Mobile Stores, Other. • A new github.com tab joins your Dev group automatically. • A new figma.com tab joins Design. • Meet/Zoom/Teams tabs land in Calls. Open the Spaces view for a live count per workspace. Click one to group its tabs into Chrome's native tab groups with a color. "Group all spaces" tidies the whole window in one click. Expanding one group collapses the others — your tab strip stays readable. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 6. SESSIONS (SAVE + RESTORE) ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ Name a set of open tabs, restore them later — same window or a fresh one. Sessions stay forever until you delete them. Plus a silent auto-backup running in the background: if Chrome crashes or you close a window by mistake, Tabito surfaces a recovery banner on the next open with "N tabs across M windows · saved Xm ago" and a one-click Restore. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 7. QR HANDOFF TO PHONE ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ Click QR, scan with your phone camera, done. The active tab's URL is rendered client-side as a QR — no server, no account, no upload. Cookies don't cross devices via QR, so sign in on your phone with the same Google account (Chrome Sync) or a password manager. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ BONUS: CLEAN TABS NOW ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ One button in the More view. Collapses exact duplicates (keeping the copy you used most recently), then groups the rest by workspace. Five GitHub tabs and three Hacker News tabs become two tidy, colored groups. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ WHY YOU CAN TRUST TABITO ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ • Only two host permissions: meet.google.com and *.zoom.us. Needed to detect when a call actually ends (audible/muted state). Nothing else. • Zero content scripts on your pages. • Zero network calls. No server, no account, no analytics. • Zero data collected. Your tab list never leaves your browser. Compare that with most tab managers, which ask for access to every website you visit.
