Analysis of words using dictionaries and Wikipedia interlanguage links; transliteration of Semitic texts into the Hebrew script. ע\ع (Ayn\Ayn) Lookup is a multilingual text-research companion with a special focus on Arabic, Syriac/Aramaic, Hebrew, and Ge’ez/Ethiopic. Enter or paste text into the Add-On’s input pane, or select a word or passage on any webpage and start a lookup using the context menu or keyboard shortcut. ע\ع (Ayn\Ayn) Lookup opens a dedicated research window where you can examine the complete text or look up individual words. The Add-On transliterates Arabic, Syriac, Phoenician, and Imperial Aramaic into Hebrew writing, including vocalized text where applicable. It can also generate relevant word forms to improve dictionary and reference searches. ע\ع (Ayn\Ayn) Lookup provides tailored access to dictionaries, translation services, encyclopedias, etymological references, Wikimedia projects, and web search. Lookup history makes it easy to return to earlier research, while the Options pane lets you choose which translation, dictionary, search, and Wikimedia resources are used. This WebExtension is a modernized and enhanced port of the original ע\ع (Ayn\Ayn) Lookup—a Mozilla XUL Add-On. It preserves the original research workflow while updating providers, correcting legacy issues, and adding improvements for modern browsers. The port was created by the original Add-On author with development assistance from ChatGPT Codex. Transliteration is performed locally in your browser. Third-party reference sites remain responsible for their own content and availability.
