Meeting Takeover helps you not miss the Google Calendar meetings that matter — without Google OAuth or the Calendar API. Why this exists Many Workspace / GSuite orgs lock down Calendar API access and third-party OAuth for personal tools. Meeting Takeover works with the Calendar page you already use in Chrome: it reads event details from the page while you’re on calendar.google.com, stores only the meetings you choose to watch on your device, and fires a loud fullscreen alert before each one. Benefits • Pick specific meetings to watch (not every event on your calendar) • Loud maximized alert with countdown, Join link (when captured), snooze, and dismiss • Adjustable lead time (default 5 minutes before start) • No Google account linking, no remote servers, no analytics • Works with Meet, Zoom, Teams, and Webex join URLs when they appear in the event details How it works 1. Install the extension and open Google Calendar in Chrome. 2. Click an event so its details open, then use the Watch bar or the ⏱ floating panel to watch it. 3. Watched meetings are saved locally in chrome.storage.local and survive browser restarts. 4. Before each meeting, Chrome opens a maximized alert window with a panicky “meeting goblin” mascot, big title + countdown, Join / Snooze / Dismiss. 5. Manage your watch list and lead time from the extension popup anytime. How to use • Prefer opening the event details pane, then Watch — title, start time, and join URL are more reliable that way. • Pin the extension and keep Chrome running so alarms can fire. • After dismissing (or after the start time has passed), that meeting won’t keep re-alerting forever. Limits (please read) • Chrome must be running. Alarms do not fire if the browser is fully quit. • On macOS, the system may block focus-steal; the alert still opens, but you may need to click the Dock or window once. • Google Calendar’s DOM changes over time. The extension uses defensive selectors, but title/time/join URL can occasionally be missed on some views — open details and verify the start time in the ⏱ panel before watching. • Join URL capture is best-effort from links in the details pane. • This is not a replacement for OS calendar notifications; it complements them when you want a harder-to-ignore Chrome alert for selected meetings.
