Desktop Pet is part of the Invenio Vero Extension product family, a collection of lightweight browser extensions designed to make everyday browsing a little more enjoyable. Choose a cat, dog, bird, or frog and let your virtual companion casually wander across your screen while you read, work, or explore the web. Each one has a temperament of its own, so no two behave quite the same, and all of them stay quietly in the background, adding a fun touch without getting in your way. Key Features Choose Your Companion Pick your favorites and manage them from the simple popup menu. Keep one, or a whole little crowd of up to 20, at whatever size suits your screen: Small, Big, or Large. Every Pet Has a Personality The cat is calm and curious. It strolls, sits and watches the screen, climbs the walls, grooms itself, and curls up for a nap when you have been away a while. The dog is friendly and playful, noticing your cursor from most of the way across the window, trotting over to say hello, barking and bouncing. The bird is active and easily startled, flying between perches and preening its feathers in between. The frog is lazy and unpredictable, mostly sitting perfectly still until it suddenly hops to catch a fly. They Notice You Your pets keep half an eye on your cursor. They approach when it comes near, follow it around, or dart off if it startles them, each in its own way and its own time. Leave the mouse alone for long enough and the sleepy ones settle down for a nap, complete with little Zs, and wake when you come back. Pet Them, Pick Them Up Click a pet to give it a fuss. Drag and drop it wherever you like: hold a cat against a wall or the ceiling and it catches hold and carries on climbing, give a bird some room and it takes to the air, and everyone else lands safely back on their feet. Fun Without the Distraction Your pet moves around on a transparent overlay, so you can still click links, select text, scroll, and use websites normally. Smooth Tab Syncing Your pet's position stays synchronized across your open tabs, so your little companion can follow along as you move from one tab to another. Lightweight and Efficient Desktop Pet is built to stay fast and memory efficient, keeping your browsing experience smooth. Pets pause entirely in tabs you are not looking at, so only the tab in front of you is ever doing any work. What's New Version 1.7.0 (August 25, 2026): Personality update Every pet now has a temperament of its own, with its own way of reacting to you. Pets notice your cursor: they look over when it comes close, follow it, stare at it, or bolt from it. New animations: sleeping, the cat grooming itself, the bird preening and stretching its wings, and the frog catching a fly. Pets fall asleep when you have been away and wake up when you come back. Earlier updates Version 1.6.0 (August 20, 2026): Pets can now be dragged and placed anywhere, holding on wherever they land. Version 1.5.0 (August 17, 2026): Added the frog, with its own hopping behavior. Version 1.4.0 (August 9, 2026): Three pet sizes to choose from. Important Notes Due to Chrome security restrictions, Desktop Pet cannot appear on internal Chrome pages, including chrome:// pages, the New Tab page, the Chrome Web Store, and PDF viewers. Desktop Pet lives within the webpage content area. It does not appear on your actual computer desktop or taskbar.
