Pop a tab into a popup window with a color-coded anchor to snap it back. Sound familiar? You're deep in work with 20 tabs open. You drag one out to view on your second screen... now you have two windows. A few more tabs end up in that second window. Then a third. Before long you have four browser windows, 40+ tabs scattered across them, no idea which window has what, your machine is crawling, and you've lost the tab you actually needed. Tether fixes this. Tether lets you pop any tab into a floating popup window with a single keystroke, and snap it back exactly where it was when you're done. How it works Press Ctrl+K (Windows/Linux) or Cmd+K (Mac) on any tab. It instantly moves into a focused popup window, and a color-coded anchor placeholder takes its place in your tab bar. When you're ready to return it, press the shortcut again or click the Return button on the anchor. The tab snaps back to its original position and the popup closes. Color coding Each popup gets one of 5 colors. A matching dot appears in both the popup's title bar and its anchor tab so you always know which belongs to which. Up to 5 popups can be open at once. Auto-tether In Options, you can enable auto-tether: any tab you drag out of a Chrome window into its own new window is automatically tethered. It becomes a popup with an anchor placeholder left behind, just as if you had used the shortcut. If you're used to dragging tabs into new windows, this keeps that habit intact while ensuring you always end up back in one main window. No more window sprawl.
