Herae is a watch party extension for people who watch together from different places. It keeps any video in step, puts their face next to the film instead of a phone propped against a lamp, and at the end of the night it hands you the few seconds you both reacted to. THE PART PEOPLE DIDN'T EXPECT TO CARE ABOUT Six months from now you won't remember which film it was. You'll remember the face they made at the bit that got them — and with Herae you'll still have it. While you watch, it quietly notices the moments you actually react to: the laugh, the gasp, the moment you both turn to the camera at the same second. At the end of the night it offers them to you and you decide what to keep. That is the whole point of it. A night you didn't record is unrecorded forever, and you cannot go back and make last year's Tuesday again. WHY NOT JUST SHARE YOUR SCREEN? Screen sharing a film is watching a slideshow of your partner's internet connection. It sends a squashed copy of your screen, eats battery and bandwidth, and both of you end up watching the worse version. Herae doesn't move the video at all. You each play your own full-quality copy; only the timing travels. Play, pause, skip — one of you does it, both of you get it. WORKS WHERE YOU ACTUALLY WATCH Most watch-party tools keep a list of services they support, and the site you actually use is usually not on it. If you've tried one before and it just sat there doing nothing, that's why. Herae doesn't keep a list. It works from the video player itself — the big streaming services, the small ones with a name a friend had to send you, and video inside embedded players. If it plays in your browser, Herae can keep it in step. Herae never hosts, provides or streams any video. It only keeps the player you already have open in step with theirs. No video or image is ever sent anywhere, no record of your face is kept, and nothing leaves your computer until you choose to keep a moment. It's one switch to turn off entirely, and turning it off genuinely unloads it — no camera, no CPU, no memory. For syncing, Herae reads the play/pause state and position of the video on the page you choose to sync. It also reads the title and address of what you're watching, so a moment you keep can say what it was from. Not your form fields, not your passwords, not your browsing history.
