Proposes a second draft of what you just typed, using Chrome's built-in on-device AI. Nothing leaves the machine. Second Draft rewrites text you have already typed — softer, shorter, as a question, or simply corrected — using the language model built into Chrome. Your text is processed on your own machine. There is no server, no account and no API key. That is enforced rather than promised. The extension declares no host permissions, and its Content Security Policy sets connect-src 'none', so Chrome refuses a network request from it even if the code attempted one. The source is public, and the build fails if that guarantee is ever removed. Nine rewrites, plus your own: • Soften a blunt comment without weakening the claim • Turn a statement into a genuine question • Halve the length, keeping the technical detail • Cut the hedging — "I think", "just", "maybe" • Restructure prose into bullet points • Make it less formal, same facts • Fix typos only, in whatever language you are writing • Translate to English, offered only when the text is not English already • Fix the English only, leaving your tone untouched • Write your own: a label and an instruction, stored in your browser profile Click into any text field, press Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+K, or right-click the field and choose Second Draft. The rewrite appears next to your original in an editable box and goes into the field only when you press Insert. Cmd+Z undoes the insert. Language is detected first, so a rewrite that makes no sense for what you wrote is shown struck through with the reason instead of quietly producing nonsense. Requirements: Chrome 138 or newer on desktop, roughly 22 GB of free disk space, and a supported GPU. The model downloads once, on first use. Click the toolbar icon first — it tells you whether your machine can run the model before you rely on it. Honest limitations: the on-device model is small. It is good at grammar and tone, weaker at anything needing judgement, and unreliable if you ask it about code. In a rich editor, the rewritten part comes back as plain text. The interface is available in English, German and Russian.
