Bilingual YouTube subtitles: original captions plus a translated line. Supports DailyWire. Click a word to translate it. Litancy shows two subtitle lines on a video: the video's own captions, and a translation into the language you are learning. Click any word on either line and a small popup shows its translation; the video pauses while you read. WHAT IT DOES • Two-line subtitles drawn inside the player, so they stay on screen in fullscreen. • A round button at the top-right of the player opens the settings menu: on/off, translate-to language (Polish, Chinese, Spanish, Japanese and more), caption language, translation engine, line toggles and font size. • Click a word on the original line to translate it into your target language, or a word on the translated line to translate it back. One popup at a time. Optional link to Diki (Polish) or Wiktionary. • Detects the caption language of the video and shows it in the menu. • Translations are prefetched a few captions ahead and cached per video. WHERE IT WORKS • YouTube — manual captions preferred, auto-generated captions as fallback. • DailyWire episodes (Mux player). • More sites can be added; the code is open. TRANSLATION ENGINES (no key needed) • Google Translate public endpoints • Lingva (Google mirror) • MyMemory • Your own LibreTranslate server (optional) If one engine is unavailable, Litancy falls back to the next. WHAT IT DOES NOT DO No sign-up, no subscription, no AI back end, no analytics, no data collection. Caption text is sent only to the translation service you pick. See the privacy policy for details.
