Decode QR codes from visible images, canvases, video frames, or a selected image. Processing stays offline on your device. LocalQR - Offline QR Reader is a privacy-focused Chrome extension. Users can scan visible images, canvases, and current video frames in the current viewport, or right-click a specific image and choose “Read QR code from this image” to process only that image. Video scanning processes only the frame visible in one user-triggered tab capture. It does not read the video URL, download media, pause or seek the video, or sample multiple frames. DRM, hardware overlays, captions, comments, controls, and picture-in-picture may prevent a QR code from appearing in the capture, so not every video can be decoded. The extension captures the visible tab once only after an explicit user action and performs QR recognition locally on the user's device. It does not call a remote QR-recognition service, re-fetch image URLs, or use analytics, advertising, or tracking services. Results are always treated as untrusted text. Only valid HTTP and HTTPS URLs receive a user-initiated “Open in new tab” action. The target opens in a background tab so the user can continue processing other results. Other protocols and plain text can only be viewed or copied; they are never executed automatically. The interface supports English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Korean, and Japanese. It starts in English, and users can switch languages inside the extension. Only the selected language code is stored locally. All language resources are packaged with the extension, and no remote translation service is used.
