Clean reader view and read-aloud for web pages, PDFs, Google Docs, and uploaded books. Voxly turns anything you read into a clean, distraction-free page — and reads it aloud in a voice and language you choose. One extension, four kinds of document: • Web pages and articles — stripped of ads, navigation and clutter • PDFs — on the web, on your computer, or in Google Drive • Google Docs — any document you can already open • EPUB books and plain text or Markdown files HOW TO USE IT Click the toolbar icon on any page, or press Alt+R. A small player appears at the bottom of the page you are already on, so you keep your place and your scroll position. Prefer a clean layout? Choose "Open in reader view" for a distraction-free tab. Highlight text before you invoke it and only that selection is read. You can also right-click any selection and choose "Read selection aloud". Press Space to play or pause, or Alt+P from anywhere. Use the arrow keys or the skip buttons to move a sentence at a time, and click any paragraph to start reading from there. The sentence being spoken is highlighted as it plays, so it is easy to follow along. READS MANY LANGUAGES Voxly detects the language of what you are reading and picks the best matching voice installed on your computer. It distinguishes Hindi, Marathi and Nepali from one another despite their shared script, and covers Bengali, Punjabi, Gujarati, Odia, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Urdu, Sinhala, Arabic, Hebrew, Russian, Greek, Thai, Chinese, Japanese and Korean, along with the major Latin-script languages. You can always override the choice yourself. Voices come from your operating system, so any voice you have installed is available here. MADE FOR COMFORTABLE READING • Speed from 0.5x to 3x, plus pitch control • Light, sepia and dark themes • A sleep timer — stop after 5 to 60 minutes, or at the end of the page • Jump to any paragraph, and pick up where you left off • Every setting remembered between sessions • Control playback from the toolbar popup without switching tabs PRIVACY Voxly collects nothing. No analytics, no tracking, no accounts, no servers of ours. Your preferences are stored locally on your own computer, and the extension can only read a page at the moment you explicitly ask it to — there is no always-on access to any website. OPTIONAL: PREMIUM VOICES If your system voices are not good enough, you can add your own OpenAI or Google Cloud API key for higher-quality speech. This is off by default. If you turn it on, the text being read is sent from your browser straight to that provider to generate the audio, and they bill you directly. Your key stays on your device and is never sent to us. Leave it off and nothing leaves your computer. GOOD TO KNOW • Read-aloud needs the reader tab or page to stay open; Chrome pauses speech in background tabs and the player tells you when this happens. • Scanned PDFs with no text layer cannot be read, as there is no text to find. • Google Docs need you to be signed in to an account with access. • For PDFs stored on your computer, enable "Allow access to file URLs" on the extension's details page.
