Dark mode for every site on the web — even the ones that never shipped one. Per-site control, scheduling, tunable contrast. Dark mode. The whole web. Half the web still doesn't offer a dark theme. Karbon fixes that: flip one switch and the page goes dark — while photos, video, and logos stay exactly the colour they were shot in. WHAT IT DOES • Darkens any website, including ones with no dark theme of their own • Keeps photos, video, canvas, and background images true to colour • Leaves small icons and logos legible instead of crushing them into the background • Detects sites that already ship a dark theme and stays out of their way (you can still force Karbon on if you prefer its version) • No white flash — on return visits the dark style lands before the page paints, so late-night browsing never strobes you • Works on scrolling feeds and single-page apps: new content is styled as it streams in HOW IT WORKS Karbon doesn't repaint your screen with a grey overlay, and it doesn't "guess" colours from a server somewhere. It builds a stylesheet, in your browser, that inverts the page's theme colours and then rotates hue back — so whites become deep charcoal, but blues stay blue and reds stay red. Real imagery is counter-inverted so it comes out exactly as shot. The result reads like the site's designers built it dark, not like a filter was dropped on top. CONTROL IT YOUR WAY • One-click per-site toggle — pin any site permanently on or off • Five presets: Balanced — the default; deep charcoal with a touch of warmth Deep black — maximum darkness for OLED screens Warm sepia — low blue light for late-night reading High contrast — punchier text for bright rooms and tired eyes Grayscale — strip colour when you want zero distraction • Brightness, contrast, warmth, and grayscale sliders with live preview — drag them and watch the page change in real time • Scheduling — always on, follow your operating system's dark-mode setting, or a custom time window (windows that cross midnight, like 19:00 to 07:00, work exactly as you'd expect) • Decide what new sites do: darken automatically, or stay untouched until you turn them on • Keyboard shortcuts — Alt+Shift+D toggles the current site, Alt+Shift+G toggles Karbon everywhere (rebindable at chrome://extensions/shortcuts) • Export and import your settings as a file — move your setup to another machine in seconds PRIVATE BY DESIGN Karbon has no servers, no accounts, no analytics, and no trackers. There is no code path that transmits anything, anywhere. It never reads your keystrokes, form entries, or history. The permission it asks for — "read and change data on all websites" — is what lets it restyle the page you're looking at; that styling work happens entirely on your machine, and what happens in your browser stays in your browser. The only data Karbon keeps is your own settings (sliders, schedule, per-site list), stored in your Chrome profile and synced by Chrome the same way your bookmarks are. We couldn't see your browsing if we wanted to. There is nothing to sell, share, or leak — the data simply does not exist.
