Parental controls a parent sets up: blocks chosen sites, limits short-video scrolling, and reports their child's activity. SafeNeat is a parental-control system that helps parents stay aware of what their children do online, with their full knowledge and consent. This browser extension is the browser half of SafeNeat and works together with the SafeNeat Windows agent, which the parent installs on the child's PC. What the extension does: 1. Reports the child's YouTube activity to the parent's SafeNeat dashboard. 2. Enforces the parent's web block list in-browser. Any navigation to a parent-blocked domain is refused locally; the child sees a "Blocked by SafeNeat" page instead of the site loading. What the extension reports back to the parent dashboard: • YouTube: titles of videos watched, channels visited, and search queries entered. • YouTube Shorts: a count of how many short videos your child has watched, so a parent can set a limit. The count comes from the page address only. No title, identifier, caption or author is recorded for short videos, and when the limit is reached YouTube is blocked until the parent's time window resets. • A once-an-hour heartbeat so the parent dashboard can detect a stopped extension. YouTube is the only site this extension reads. It has one host permission, for youtube.com, and one content script. How blocking works: The SafeNeat Windows agent sends the parent's current block list to the extension over the local native-messaging channel. The extension converts that list into the browser's standard declarativeNetRequest rules and lets the browser do the blocking. The blocking itself reads no page content and transmits nothing: only the destination domain is compared against the parent-supplied list. How installation works: The extension is installed by the SafeNeat Windows agent on every supported browser detected on the machine. It does not require any setup from the user. Parents install the agent once on the child's PC, and the agent installs and keeps this extension up to date. Your child can see what is shared: Clicking the SafeNeat icon in the toolbar opens a panel, written for the child rather than the parent, listing exactly what is collected and what never is. SafeNeat is monitoring a child does with their knowledge, not surveillance they are unaware of. What we do NOT do: • This extension does not read your messages. It runs on no messaging or social site, and holds no permission for any. • No reading or modification of content on any site other than YouTube. • No advertising injection. • The extension sends no analytics or telemetry to third parties. • The extension makes no network requests of its own. Data is passed only to the locally-running SafeNeat Windows agent over native messaging, never directly to SafeNeat servers and never to any third party.
