Private team voice channel during a Teams meeting, driven by your Teams microphone state. A private voice channel for your team, during your Microsoft Teams meetings. You are in a Teams meeting with a client. Your team needs to talk something over, right now, before answering. Today that means switching to another tool, opening a side conversation, or staying quiet and waiting. OffMic adds a private voice channel between your teammates, driven by one thing only: your microphone state in Teams. HOW IT WORKS Mute your Teams microphone and you are talking to your team. Unmute it and you are talking to the client. There is no extra button to operate and no shortcut to memorize. The gesture you already make becomes the trigger. Teams mic muted -> you talk to your team, you hear your team Teams mic live -> you talk to the client, you still hear your team OffMic never controls your Teams microphone, it only watches it. A content script reads the state of the Teams mic button, and your outgoing audio is enabled only while that mic is muted. Hearing your team while your Teams mic is live is on by default and can be switched off. WHAT YOU GET - Mute-driven. Your Teams microphone state is the only switch. Nothing else to operate mid-meeting. - Peer-to-peer audio. WebRTC mesh, end-to-end encrypted by DTLS-SRTP. Media never touches a server. - Rooms. A shared team code is the only secret. No account, no sign-up, no invite flow. - Per-voice mixing. Pick your microphone and audio output, set your own level, then mute or turn down any teammate who runs loud, independently of the others. - Five languages. English, French, Dutch, German and Spanish, following your browser or pinned by hand. - Light and dark. Follows your browser theme, or forced either way. - Your own relay. Point the extension at any signaling server you run. The address is editable straight from the popup. BEFORE YOU INSTALL These constraints are real and worth knowing up front, because one of them is not a software problem at all. - Headphones are mandatory. If your team's voice comes out of your speakers while your Teams mic is live, the client will hear it. No software can fix that. - Teams on the web only. A browser extension has no reach into the Teams desktop application. - Detection depends on the Teams interface. If that interface changes, detection can break until the extension is updated. - Up to 5 or 6 people. Beyond that, a peer-to-peer mesh costs too much upstream bandwidth. PRIVACY - No account, no sign-up, no usage tracking, no analytics. - Your voice never passes through a server. Audio is end-to-end encrypted by WebRTC and travels straight from browser to browser. - The extension connects to a signaling server for one purpose only: introducing peers to each other, long enough to exchange the connection descriptions they need to reach one another. No audio flows through it. - The signaling server keeps rooms in memory and writes nothing to disk. - Your microphone is captured only while you are connected to a room, and released when you disconnect. - Your settings stay in your browser's local storage. The default signaling server is wss://offmic.xeron.be. You can point the extension at your own server instead, from the popup or by editing the bundled configuration.
