Floating live captions for Brave/Chrome. Start/Stop, language, tab or microphone. Live Captions Overlay shows live captions on the movie or video tab you already have open. A small bar sits on the page: start/stop, spoken language, caption model, and translation. What it does • Listen to this tab (YouTube, movie sites, and similar) or the microphone • Show original speech, a translation, or both • Floating caption box, subtitle-style line, or hide the panel • Auto-detect spoken language, with a long list of From/To languages How captions are made • On-device models: Moonshine Tiny (fastest), Whisper Tiny, Whisper Base, Whisper Small • Optional cloud: Groq Whisper Large v3 if you add your own API key in Settings • Local speech stays on this computer. A Groq key is stored only on this device. How to use 1. Open the video in a normal site tab (not chrome:// or brave:// pages) 2. Click the Live Captions icon on that tab 3. Choose Tab audio, pick language and model, press Start 4. Play the video with sound on. First local-model run may download the model; later runs are quicker. Notes • Brave/Chrome must allow the extension to read site data for tab audio • Headphones are fine; the tab still needs unmuted playback • This is not a full desktop app and cannot caption all PC audio outside the browser
