It never requests file-system or host access at all. To preview a Markdown file, copy its text and paste it in. That constraint is what keeps the permission footprint at `storage` only, with no `activeTab`, no `scripting`, and no way for the extension to ever see anything on a web page. SAFE BY DESIGN: THE PART OTHER MARKDOWN TOOLS GET WRONG Markdown can embed raw HTML, and a pasted document could contain a hidden script, an image tag with an error handler, or a link using a dangerous `javascript:` URL. This extension renders your Markdown through two independent safety layers before anything is ever shown or copied: Markdown is parsed with raw HTML disabled (embedded HTML is shown as harmless text, never executed), and the resulting HTML is ALSO passed through a well-known, industry-standard sanitizer (DOMPurify) against a strict allowlist. Both the on-screen preview and anything you copy or export go through the exact same safety pipeline. Remote images referenced in pasted Markdown are never silently loaded either. Only self-contained embedded images are shown, so nothing you paste can quietly "phone home" as you preview it.
